We recently connected with Paris Carr and have shared our conversation below.
Paris, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
In May 2020, After being laid off I decide I would become certified as an eyelash extension expert, to create a new source of income. After receiving the certification I knew I would need more training under my belt to offer more services and keep my newly found business going. I finally enrolled at Kenneth Shuler school of cosmetology for esthetics training. After spending 7 months taking night courses I had finally completed beauty school. My next step was to take and pass the State Board exams, which I took both the written and practical exam within 3 months of graduating and passed with flying colors! I had already developed a concept for the business long with a name/LLC. I quickly secured business insurance, a business license, and a space to receive clients. Now I just had to hustle to get my clients in the door. I offered gift certificates to businesses that were having raffles, I also offered discounted services like buy one get one half off facials, and 20% off male services on Man Care Mondays and 20% off female services on Woman Care Wednesdays. Soon enough my clients started to come around. In order to create a consistent client list I needed to be sure to pre-book their next appointments before they finished the first appointment. I purchased business cards and took them to other businesses to put on display. Today, I continue to learn techniques and advanced technology within this ever-changing beauty industry!

Paris, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Paris Carr, owner and operator of, The Boudoir, LLC. The Boudoir is a French word that refers to a lady’s powder room. I knew that I wanted my business to have a timeless name because I knew it would be around for some time. I payed close attention in school and once I finished school I still studied facial techniques, services, and advanced technology in order to take my business to the next level. I provide facials, makeup services (fx effects and full glam, face, arm, and leg waxing services for individuals and group settings, eyelash extensions and one-on-one trainings. I pride myself in ingredient knowledge, this allows me to treat my clients’ skin with the most effective ingredient combination to get the job done.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me are my current clients. They are always pleased with their results so it is literally walking promotion for my business.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Well I had managed to save up funds that would be used for my business. Meanwhile I had been involved in a wild car accident that totaled my car. I had to quickly refocus and reprioritize my goals and where my funds would be of best use. Nevertheless I ended up using my new business savings to purchase a new car that I ultimately needed in order to keep building and expanding my business.
