Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paradise Bradford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paradise, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
It all started in a prison cell. After being away from my children for 3 years I lost myself and had to rely solely on my own thoughts and emotions. I started to wonder how I got here? But I didn’t feel alone, I felt like there was no way I was the only one feeling this way. I did a soul search, and decided I had a lot of barriers I faced alone and if I had someone or somewhere I could have turned to that truly cared, I wouldn’t be where I was at the moment. I began to identify where things went wrong and built a place in my mind that I would have run to for a hug. That’s where Pretty Passionate Hands Child Care Inc. came from. I wanted to have an incorporation so I could do all things! I know my story are huge and I need alot of space to get the job done. I wanted to be a child care but it didn’t quite seem realistic for me, after doing the work and gaining a 501(c)3 I ended up losing my building right after covid, so I turned to the work I have always been doing, giving back to the community, so once I understood what a 501(c)3 was used for I started my nonprofit organization and I have went above and beyond to educate myself and learn more to provide the services for my community! November 1st, 2022 was the biggest and greatest day of my life we found a place to plant our seeds and I’m extremely excited to see the greatness of my work bloom.
Paradise, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a 33 year old mother of 7, I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m the founder and CEO of Pretty Passionate Hands Child Care Inc. a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports teen mothers and fathers. We also have other programs that helps within the families, are mission is to provide support and guidance to our teen parents in our communities. What I love to do is help our parents left daily barriers that may hinder them from living they best values of life. I provide them with their basic daily living needs and give educational support through out mentorship programs, helping build self love and healthy relationships. What’s sets my organization apart from the others is everything I give out I have experience myself I can relate with my parents, I understand them in a way that I’d your not a teen parent you truly wouldn’t understand. So when we opening up and talking about those gaps and barriers it’s truly an experience that my parents really become vulnerable and share things they callous never share before. They feel safe and they share more which gives me the ability to really tackle those issues that are deep down to give me a place to plant my seeds of growth within them. It’s a lovely and life changing experience. I’m most proud when I see that my parents have made the slightes changes, even it just the way they send me a text message and say how today was a good day or how they are happy today. Or maybe how they just feel like a better parent this morning cause their smiling and their child is happy. It makes everything moment of my life worth living for, and makes me go push harder for the support I need for them.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I never had a capital for my business, you know I worked very hard at my job to provide for my kids but also to be able to help my parents I’d they needed anything. My business runs mostly off donations and education programs. So I figured out how to get back from the community in the areas I was slacking myself. So I went from calling my parents and asking what they need finding a friend to meet me half way with the funds or donations and then we came up with care packages, if my friends was coking diner that night I would get a few plates from them and take some from my home and feed my parents, and I did that since 2015. I made sure to keep my kids clothing and shoes in fair condition so I could hand them down when needed. That’s was my greatest accomplishment, cause I have kids that range from 16 years old to 3 years old so you know I have variety. After learning what a 501(c)3 was I was able to find programs to educate myself. I recently received a $5000 grant for my nonprofit and I used it to fund our building space and I received $2500 sponsorship just a week after and I used it to fund our equipment and materials so from here we can only build more to increase our funds by educating myself and learning what it take so receive more support from the community and others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Well I would call this my side job! Because after I finish anything I want to see where i can assist anyone. It is now mu full time job because even through I don’t get paid at the moment I have been able to build it into what my heart has always desired. I started firm my kitchen, my backyard helping people when I can. To now having an office I got to every morning and seem to assist someone everyday! I’m very thankful for that. It’s doesn’t pay right now but the reward of seeing a once mother or father like me show a sign of relief when they come see me is priceless.
