We were lucky to catch up with Paola Camacho recently and have shared our conversation below.

Paola, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

My parents have been an incredible source of support throughout my life, always believing in me and my dreams. Growing up in a family that faced financial challenges in Colombia, I saw firsthand how those tough times fueled my determination to succeed. It was those struggles that pushed me to work hard, pay for my own education, and even fund my trip to the United States to study English. That journey, and the obstacles along the way, shaped me into the person I am today—resilient and driven to start my own business. It taught me the invaluable lesson that perseverance truly does lead to success.

One of the things I admire most about my parents is that they never stood still in the face of financial hardship. Rather than letting challenges overwhelm them, they always found a way to create opportunities, launching small ventures to ensure my sister and I were taken care of. That example of unwavering commitment and resourcefulness has stayed with me, and I’ll forever be grateful for it. I often think that if I had grown up with everything handed to me, I wouldn’t have developed the same grit, ambition, and appreciation for the journey.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I’m the co-founder of Kaptura Media, alongside my husband, Luis Contreras. We’re a creative company focused on visual storytelling through video production, photography, and digital content. My journey into this industry began with a passion for capturing meaningful moments and sharing stories that resonate with people. After years of hard work, including self-funding my education and gaining experience in various creative fields, Luis and I decided to join forces and launch Kaptura Media. Together, we’ve built a company that is not only client-focused but also award-winning—we’re proud to have been honored with 7 South Emmy Awards for our work.

At Kaptura Media, we offer a wide range of services, from video production and corporate videos to event coverage and social media content creation. Our specialty lies in understanding our clients’ unique visions and bringing them to life with creativity and precision. We don’t just make videos or take pictures; we craft stories that connect with audiences and leave a lasting impact.

One of the things we’re most proud of is how our clients trust us to bring their vision to reality, which is why many return to work with us again. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach—we’re deeply involved in every aspect of the creative process, ensuring that the final product is not only professional but also uniquely tailored to each client’s needs.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I believe that transitioning from being an employee to becoming an entrepreneur is a significant pivot, and it’s often a challenging one at first. Many people hesitate to take that step because we tend to prefer the comfort of what we know. Even though I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, it wasn’t easy for me to make that leap. There were moments in the beginning when I wanted to return to the stability of a paycheck and the security that comes with being employed.

But once you take that step, you start to realize that despite the obstacles, what you’re working toward will have a long-term impact not only on yourself but also on others—sometimes even your family. My focus has never wavered in terms of what I wanted to achieve; I’ve always been driven by the same goals. It’s about finding your true passion, the thing that truly makes you happy. That passion will give you the strength to push through the difficult times and keep going until you succeed.

How’d you meet your business partner?

My co-founder is also my husband, and together we have a 6-year-old son who is our biggest motivation. When we first met, he already had a video and photography business focused on social events, and I joined him to work on some projects. We worked so well together, and over time, our professional relationship naturally evolved into a friendship. Eventually, we realized that we were not only business partners but also partners in life.

We’ve always made a great team, and that’s something our clients often notice and appreciate. Working side by side, we’ve supported each other through the ups and downs, learning and growing along the way. Now, with the experience and maturity that comes from years of working together, we feel proud and blessed to continue this journey together, both in business and in life.
