Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pamela Turner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Pamela , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
If I could choose one way to describe the heartwarming experiences I have with each of my clients, I could never choose a specific one. However, I can say that each of those clients have told me how much I have changed their quality of life for the better in so many ways.
One moment that sticks out for me in particular is treating infants who have struggled tremendously during feedings due to tongue and lip tie restrictions. And parents expressing their immense gratitude for aiding in improving symptoms on such a “rare” diagnosis that they never imagined could be such an impact on their life as well.
One family gifted me with a holiday card that said,
“Pam, we can never thank you enough for helping our family improve our babies symptoms. You have done such an amazing job that we no longer need surgery”.
Reading those words really signified that I really am in the right career field, I genuinely love what I do, especially when I can change someone’s life for the better.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello,
My name is Pamela Turner, and I am a Medical Massage Therapist based out of Fayetteville, NC.
From the beginning of my career, I knew I wanted to take the medical route. I began my career in a spa and I knew right then and there the medical route was the way for me.
Beginning a career fresh out of school can be very intimidating, especially in the medical field. People automatically expect that you should know what you’re doing, which is true. However there’s always an opportunity to learn and grow!
As I grew in the first two years of my career in a spa, my clients would always tell me how good I was but I didn’t think I was as good as they said. I had to gain the confidence that I in fact knew what I was doing! I started to self educate on the medical aspect of my career a little bit more as clients would continue to tell me how good I was and how I have fixed their injuries, significant muscle tension, quality of life, etc. I was the go to therapist for deep tissue and sports massage. These two modalities is what changed my life in ways I never thought it would.
When it comes to my career, I am most proud of being able to exclusively be in the presence of my clients, as each client is different and needs different treatment. I may not be a medical miracle worker but in my treatments I can assure that each client leaves feeling way better than they did before their service and that is what they remember, I made them feel better!
To my future clients, it’s ok to be scared of the unknown. But in order to feel better, we have to start somewhere! I hope we meet soon one day in the start of a new body, until then start moving your body and watch what your body does for you in return.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
For me personally, what I think is the most helpful for my success in my field is just simply listening to my clients needs.
At the end of the day we are all humans, we are not perfect. My clients come in vulnerable. As a Medical Massage Therapist, I know everything about my clients health that is disclosed to me through an intake form. I have to be especially empathetic and understanding of my clients vulnerability when it comes to their health. They come to me for care not to be judged in any manner. I always put myself in their shoes as I too am human myself and vulnerable as well when it comes to my health. That is how I build my relationships with my clients, it’s the trust and understanding rather than just being another “practitioner” who doesn’t see them as the human being they are.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In my professional opinion, it’s educating my clients. It builds trust and their confidence in them knowing the person treating them knows what they’re doing. Not only making them feel better physically but also giving them the confidence to spread your name around because you indeed know what you’re doing. I always say “teamwork makes the dream work” or “help me help you”. I use these phrases in my treatments daily as a motivation statement for my clients to make sure they are doing the homework I send them home with. In turn I get to meet so many new people just because I leave a mark on my clients in a good way!
