We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pamela Grigsby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pamela below.
Hi Pamela, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Prior to yoga, I had been working in clinical trials. I would recruit patients for studies, explain the trials and help them through the process. I found towards the end I was speaking with people who were hurting in their lives. There was much anger and sadness there. I realized I wanted to do more than I was. I have always loved working with kids and decided that I wanted to help people develop the skills needed to cope better in the world we live in. So I became a kids yoga instructor! I continued with my training and obtained my 200 hour certification and yin certificate, as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always loved movement and staying healthy. I have always enjoyed working with people. After many different jobs and my own physical struggles, I decided to obtain my yoga certification. It was the best decision! I believe I healed myself and I now have the chance to help others become the best versions of themselves. I am especially lucky because I work with kids, adults and seniors. I have both online classes and in person classes. I have been able to make meaningful connections in the community and feel that my life has a greater purpose. I am also a wife and mom, and the flexibility I have with my yoga schedule offers such a great balance for my life.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, networking has been the best and really just putting myself out there. I contacted so many schools before I found one that was interested in yoga. Once that first one was booked things sort of fell into place. My best clients for my adult classes have turned out to be my friends which I think is quite special.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think creativity and also patience. You want to keep your classes new and fresh so people will keep coming back!
There are always set backs though so I think patience with yourself and the journey is key. For every win you may have two fails. That is ok! But continuing on and believing there may be something better around the corner helps so much.
