We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pamela Ewing a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Pamela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had been a Marketing Manager for a country, who when I started working with them, they were completely unknown. It took a lot of work, including early morning beginning at 4am sometimes, as well as serious collaboration, but within a few years, people started recognizing the brand. I went through various aspects of climbing the ladder, including becoming the country’s Director of Industry. After what seemed like a lifetime, I decided to leave.
I was unsure what I would do next, as it seemed that I had so branded myself to that country, that I could not attached to anything else. I decided to start anyway and put out there that I would be doing product marketing. My first client was a book promotion. I felt that I was solving the problem of offering small and midsize companies and countries, the opportunity to gain exposure through me leveraging my vast network. I was most excited about the idea of moving an unknown product, to relevance and recognition. I wanted to work with small and medium size companies, who ordinarily would not have this opportunity.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am originally from a small town of about 800 people, known as Bottle Creek, North Caicos. I left my small town as a teenager to travel to the big town of San Diego, Ca., where I later studied hospitality management, for a couple of years. I move back to that small country and worked for a while; however, family obligations saw me moving to Maryland/Washington DC, some 20+ years ago. When I moved, I had previously worked at the Hotel Del Coronardo for a while, as well as a couple of other properties. My background, and experience, caused me to be asked by a government to help open and work in their New York office.
I further educated myself in business and international policy, so that I could have this in addition to my experience, which I believe is enormously helpful.
The problem I solved for my client is providing them with direction on their brand strategy and helping them to build awareness, so that they the go to product in their industry. I think what sets me apart is that I have proven myself through building a product in a competitive environment, where may other customers are selling a similar product.
I am most proud of being able to build a personal brand of creating deliverable and being able to action them. Additionally, helping to take any unknow brand to a world recognized and sort after brand is incredible accomplishment.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2020 when everyone closed, I was tasked with reopening the country of Turks and Caicos for Tourism. It was daunting, given everything that was going on in the world. As the Director of Tourism, I worked with our team to put together a comprehensive plan of travel requirements, public relations, marketing and promotions, using all available resources. That summer we had the largest tourist visits in the history of the country. That was no small accomplishment, given the circumstances. People were generally not travelling.
The 2nd and more personal was when I moved to the US, we found out that our son was neurodivergent. It was akin to being punched in the face and in the gut. I worked tirelessly to get him assistance and, in the end, got him into a five-month program at NIH and he is doing well.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think of social media as a place to share stories of family or brands, in an authentic way, that make your audience either want to imitate you, applaud you, or help you. Many people use social media create the life they want, I think it is about sharing either your life or your brand story, authentically.
I have built my social media audience by being my authentic self. Say what is happening, in words or pictures and be real about it.
