We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pam Sherman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pam below.
Alright, Pam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
Just last week on a United flight, I sat next to a young man who worked for United. We were both flying from Orlando to Sacramento. We chatted during the flight about his family and where he grew up. The Denver to Sacramento leg got cancelled. He found me sitting on the ground charging my phone. He told me there was a flight with open seats going to Reno which is just 2 hours away from Sacramento. He brought me to a machine to transfer my ticket so I could get home that night. I had been gone for 6 days and really wanted to make it home. Without his help, I wouldn’t have.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a 56 year old health/wellness coach. I’ve been in the fitness industry for 27 years as an instructor, coach and trainer. My mission is to inspire women on their health journey! I was born with motivation dripping out of my pores and want to give that to those that I work with!
Fitness is a lifelong endeavor and I want to make it fun for people to workout- without crushing them! My YT Channel- Pam Sherman has loads of workout videos as well as stretching, 1 minute of peace playlist and more.
Currently I have a private FB Group- the Perfect Balance Tribe. We have weekly LIVES where we talk about food, fitness, and wins!!! As well as daily motivation, workout tips/videos, eating strategies and more.
My personal clients have had so much success using the Isagenix 30 day system! Weight loss is what is the most challenging for all of my clients! Using the 30 day system makes it so easy to follow! It’s high quality nutrition that tastes great!
I am most proud of reaching out to different companies who don’t feature over 50 coaches and getting in the door. By doing this, I’ve become a coach on the FitRadio app, Terra-Core app, I teach for Helix at Home, have coached for MaxPro, and also teamed with the Kbox company. Teaching is my favorite thing to do and there needs to be more representation of people over 50!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Six and a half years ago, I was out for a run and got hit by a car. It sped out of a parking lot and I face planted into it, leaving a tooth in the windshield. That accident happened FOR me, not to me.
I firmly believe I was meant to inspire more women on their fitness journey. Had I not been hit, I would still be teaching and training and not out there on social media or reaching out to the companies that I have to be their over 50 trainer.
It took 2 years to get new teeth and back to myself. Along the way, I worked hard and am the strongest I have ever been.
My accident could have been so much worse. I ended up in the 2nd lane of traffic after I rolled off the windshield. Had a car been there I would have been seriously hurt or killed.
My motto even through all my dental surgeries was… it’s better than being dead.
Since getting hit, I spoke at the Best You in London, became a coach on the FitRadio app, and have a big social media following on TikTok pam_sherman1 where I put out real life advice on food/fitness.
None of this would have happened had I not been hit.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think being vulnerable and open about my own struggles has helped me succeed in my field. I have struggled with my weight a few times in my adult life and share that on social media. People assume because you are a fitness professional, that you have never struggled. I am open about my struggles with weekend binging, being my heaviest in college when I was a marathon runner and gaining 20 lbs when my dad died.
Life happens to all of us and I am human just like everyone else.
