Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pam Morgan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Pam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

I took my first art lessons at the age of 12 years old. It was in the basement of a local artist’s home. She taught me to love and been unafraid to use color. After having lessons with her, I was hooked!

Pam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My journey started in the early 1970’s, I took art classes from a local artist in the area in my elementary school years. After that I just kept taking classes in high school and college because that is what I loved doing. After college I worked in graphic design and desktop publishing. Got married in the late 1980’s, and had three children, one set of twins. Things came to halt for a little while, then I started to do any side hustling I could, using the little space we had in our condo. I made and sold ceramics, painted clothing and sewn items. We learned early on that all three of our children were on different spectrums of autism. We were having all kinds of issues with them, and were in dire straits financially. Despite all of the struggles we got them all in therapies and I still created trying to bring any extra money in I could. That side hustle became to hard to keep doing. Years later I worked outside of the house part-time at odd hours.. By the early 2000’s, I then was able to start another creative side hustle of making chocolates. My sister and I made and sold chocolates and started doing shows with them. My adult children are now all in their 30’s and I have become a full-time caregiver. Pandemic hit and all of the kids programs came to a halt. I joined a art membership group and started painting on a regular basis. It felt so good, and really helped me deal with a lot of stress. It got to the point where after taking classes and getting into a consistent routine of creating I started to have a lot of artwork around. The turning point for me was 2 years ago when I decided I needed to focus on myself as a marketable brand as I brought all these unique skills together.. I started forming bonds with other women and other artists on social media, because I knew that social media would play a role in my business success. In early 2023, with help I launched my website https;//pammorganstudio.com. That same year I hired a business coach, which also gave me opportunities to be in a support group with other people who have art businesses. This really helped me focus more on the fact that I am selling not just art, but me as a brand. I’m learning to let got of limiting beliefs I’ve had for years. The thing I am most proud about is despite working as a full-time caregiver for my adult children, I am taking the time at 65 years old, to use my creative abilities for their therapeutic benefits and experience the joy of it all. If I can help others to learn that they can do this for themselves brings me a lot of satisfaction.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Aside from having autism, my twins have had significant health issues through the years. My daughter suffers from mental illness and has become hospitalized more than once for it. Both twins have been hospitalized more than once from severe respiratory illnesses. The daily grind in dealing with all of their issues have taken a toll on my husband and I. I think all of this at any point, even now, could keep me from doing anything for myself. But using my creative abilities gives me an outlet to be able to cope with it all and find peace in all of the constant chaos. I hope others feel something special when they see my art. If I can inspire others to work thru adversities that they have in their life, that brings me the most satisfaction.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability of having your artwork make someone feel special or have joy from having it in their spaces.
