We were lucky to catch up with Pam Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pam, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
I have been misunderstood and mischaracterized during the first 3 years of my creative career. I am an older Model/Hostess/Promoter/Radio Personality/Artist Developer just to name a few more things. As a teen and young adult, I always loved modeling, acting in stage plays and dancing on stage during her informative years but felt a sense of reluctance due to my shyness. My mother would place me in a multitude of extracurricular activities including theatre and sports. What an amazing lesson learned because my mother kept reminding me that I had the talent and encouraged me to overcome my fears of what others may think. I learned that I had to get out of my own way if I wanted to not only succeed but also enjoy the opportunities to showcase my talents. Now here I am decades later and I take great pride in encouraging and empowering older models that may not feel confident, or feel they are too old and may experience age discrimination in the modeling, acting or any other performing arts platforms. In the 4 years of gaining notoriety and confident, I realized I needed to over-come the fear of discrimination and understand that she is worthy of the same opportunities younger models were afforded.
Pam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
