We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paloma Tillotson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Paloma thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I officially started my business three months ago after quitting my 9-5 to pursue my passion for social media management. I was a mix of excited, confident, and nervous, but I knew it was the right time. I’d worked in marketing before, both in Brazil and here, and always dreamed of running my own business. The timing just clicked, and with support from my amazing husband, I decided to go for it. Sure, I gave up job security and work-life balance, but I’m so happy I did. Every day is a learning journey, and I’m grateful for my incredible clients and the opportunity to do what I love. There is nothing I would change. I appreciate the journey and all the ups and downs.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my business because flexibility was really important to me. As a content creator with years of experience in UGC and creating content for brands, I wanted to combine my passions for creativity, trends, and social media into a business that allows me to help amazing brands connect with their ideal audience. I offer full social media management, brand design, UGC, and custom packages tailored to each client’s needs.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
Yes, we’re currently in the process of selling our luxury picnic business, Tilly Events. It’s been an incredible journey where we’ve planned and organized luxury picnics and smaller events. As entrepreneurs, we’ve learned so much along the way—especially about the power of networking, effective marketing, and the value of building a strong, loyal client base. One key lesson I’ve learned is the importance of having a solid exit strategy early on. It’s also crucial to understand the financial side of the business, so you’re in a good position when it comes time to sell. For anyone looking to sell their business in the future, my advice would be to focus on building a sustainable brand and network from the start, and ensure your business systems are in place and streamlined for a smooth transition.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It started with being authentic and consistent. I’ve always enjoyed content creation, so I focused on sharing what I loved— tips for social media, behind-the-scenes of my work day, funny videos, or insights into the creative process. I made it a priority to engage with my followers, respond to comments, and be genuinely involved in my community. With time, this helped me build trust with my audience and grow a loyal following.
For those just starting, my advice is to be patient and consistent. And always look for new ideas and ways to be AUTHENTIC and show the real you.
