We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Palash Joshi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Palash, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

Pursuing a career as an audio professional was an unconventional choice for me, especially coming from a traditional Indian family. However, music has been an integral part of my life from an early age. My father, a fusion music enthusiast, introduced me to a wide variety of musical genres. At the same time, my mother encouraged my creative side by insisting I learn the guitar, sparking my initial hands-on relationship with music.

During my high school years, the growing popularity of electronic dance music (EDM) sparked an interest that would later shape my career aspirations. The intricate soundscapes of EDM drew me in, inspiring me to explore the art of music production. I began experimenting with sounds, and layering tracks to create something unique which felt like unlocking a new creative dimension.

As my passion for audio grew, it was clear that the traditional path of becoming a software engineer is “too boring” and made me realize the true potential of technology in shaping artistic expression. This solidified my decision and convinced my parents to support my career choice as an audio engineer—a decision that continues to drive my creative journey.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a sound engineer, musician, and audio gear enthusiast from India with expertise in Record Production, Film Post-Production and Live Sound Engineering. My journey into the world of audio began with a deep fascination for how music and sound can evoke emotion and tell stories. Over time, my passion has evolved into a career; honing my technical skills and developing a strong understanding of the industry. This passion brought me to the first step in my professional career of completing my undergraduate in sound and music technology in India. Now, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Advanced Music Technology at the University of West London, immersing myself in cutting-edge techniques and technologies, further expanding on my skills.

As an industry professional for the past four years, my experience scales from working as a Head studio engineer to a live sound engineer for a few major festivals in India. My expertise has also enabled me to provide services related to sound designing and music production tailored to bring an artist’s creative vision to life. I collaborate closely with clients, helping them refine their sound, develop innovative ideas, and achieve professional-grade results that stand out in today’s competitive music landscape, whether it be in the studio or at a live event.

What I want potential clients and followers to know about me is that my approach is rooted in innovation, and a deep respect for the artistic process. What sets me apart is my unique understanding of both Indian and Western musical styles, allowing me to seamlessly blend diverse influences and adapt to a wide range of creative projects, providing a fresh perspective to each. Similarly, combining technical proficiency with the insight of a musician, I bridge the gap between artistic vision and polished execution, creating work that is both authentic and precise.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Music for me, has always had this incredible ability to transport us places that don’t physically exist—whether it’s a dreamscape, a distant memory, or an entirely new universe of feelings and ideas. I have experienced that music, when mixed and crafted with intention can evoke a sense of place—be it peaceful, chaotic or surreal. Therefore, my goal is not just to produce technically perfect work, but to make the audience feel something real. Whether it’s the intensity of a live performance or the subtlety of a studio recording, I want the listener to experience the same deep connection I feel when I hear music that moves me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the freedom to embrace the “artistic weirdness”. Taking influences from audio engineers of the past, the world of audio gear is like a playground for creativity—where each piece of equipment offers a new possibility, a new way to manipulate sound and push the boundaries of what is traditionally accepted. Every mix I create, every song I record, is an opportunity to convey something deeply personal. But it’s not just about creating for myself; it’s about the satisfaction of sharing an artist’s creative piece with the world—inviting them into the “weirdness” and giving them a chance to portray something outside the norm.
