Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paiige. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paiige, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on has to be the current ep I’m working on. It’s about my journey to the self. Growing up I always dreamed of true love and finding said love within a partnership, but I learned that I can find that within me as long as I accept and love all parts of myself . With that came accepting my sexuality and sexual orientation, as well as being ok with being alone. Writing these songs as I progressed in this journey was really therapeutic and scary; I am not used to being this vulnerable in front of others. However, I am excited to show everyone a part of me I’ve been getting to know for a while now.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Paiige, I am a singer/songwriter. I got into singing when I was 7 and started to songwrite at 16.What sets me apart from others is that I am one of the few local artists in the Miami scene trying out the r&b/funk genre. It’s different since the scene is mostly indie rock dominated. I am inspired by Minnie Riperton, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Hiatus Kaiyote, Snoh Aalegra, Debarge, and Thundercat. My goal is to tell personal stories through my music in order to help others going through the same situations. Music is therapeutic to me and an outlet that allows me to connect with others on a deeper level. I hope to express what others can’t with words through the songs I write. I am most proud of how much I’ve grown into my own style as an artist. I feel like being comfortable being myself now rather than afraid like I used to be is a big step. My songs now deal with the discovery of the shadowself as well as my journey towards accepting my sexuality and self love, things I would of been afraid to sing about before.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
What society can do to best support artists and creatives is sharing their stuff and supporting them directly rather than through third parties. Sharing a link or a profile only takes a minute and it can make a huge difference. Also directly supporting the artist is so important because alot of companies who aim to share artists and creative’s work don’t really pay their artists. Supporting them directly ensures they are getting what they deserve for their art.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to make an impact with something that is essential you. Something like creating a song that helps you through a difficult event in your life becoming a song that helps others through similar events is really rewarding. It makes the difficulty you went through worth it knowing that there’s people out there being able to get through their stuff with your art. A part of you eventually becoming a part of everyone else, I feel like that’s the beauty of it.
