Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paige Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paige, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
The most innovative thing I’ve done in the course of my career was creating my sketch comedy series. I studied a variety of sketch shows, enrolled in writing classes, and transformed my knowledge to create sketches unique and true to my humor.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Paige Williams and I’m a graduate from Howard University with a love for telling stories that will make people laugh. I write, direct, produce, and act in order to execute my creative visions. At a young age I feel in love with the art of storytelling. I started with creating “reality TV episodes” of my family and comedic narratives with my friends. I have grown to create more high level productions such as my pilot, At Your Service, and my sketch show. The goal of every piece of content I create is to make someone smile. I think I’ve done a pretty good job at that and look forward to making more and more people smile everyday. I am most proud of my ability to create content without much support. I have self-funded, self-written, self-produced, and self-directed every one of my projects thus far. Though I look forward to the day I have a team to support me, I’m proud of how far I’ve gotten without much support. My portfolio contains well produced content that I have invested in both financially and emotionally. I am very happy with the results of my work.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The absolute most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing others react to my work. The power to evoke emotions out of a diverse group of people through my creative vision is incredibly satisfying. Watching others laugh from an idea I’ve been working on and executing for months makes every late night working session worth it.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I believe at times non-creatives may struggle to understand the why behind why we do things. Why go through so much trouble? Why put yourself out there? Why not just get a regular job? It can be hard at times to explain to others that I pursue this career because it brings me joy and is something I genuinely love. When I’m in it for the heart, the struggles and delay in gratification are all worth it. I can focus on the end goal and get through the roadblocks I will encounter on the way there because I am so confident that I will cross the finish line.
