We recently connected with Paige Sredenschek and have shared our conversation below.
Paige, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I absolutely love being an Illustrator. I have been so passionate about the craft since I was a child. This is what led me to study Illustration at the Savannah College of Art & Design and I received my BFA in June 2023! As I explored various medias and areas of illustration, I fell in love with illustration for surface design. There is nothing more rewarding to me then seeing my final work being placed on a product for someone to enjoy. I do sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a “regular job”, but I always remind myself that it is important to do what you love. I spent my last summer working as a Surface Design Intern at American Greetings, which was a wonderful job where I got to show off my creative skillset!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the surface design industry during my time studying at SCAD. SCAD allows you to explore different areas of illustration, such as book art, concept design, and more. By my junior year, I became confident that I wanted to follow the surface design path. I took a course called Type and Image, which was my introduction to surface design and I never looked back!
I create works for stationery, apparel, and home decor. I like to illustrate anything that can go on a product and feel personable to the holder, and can tie to a happy memory. My work is inspired by youthfulness, vibrant colors, and my wonderful friends and family. Not only did I grow professionally, but I learned more about myself personally as a creative.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to visualize your own growth over the years as you continue your practice. You have full control over how you express yourself in your works, and it can be a great way to visually represent yourself, others, a topic, and so much more. Witnessing your own growth is incredibly rewarding, and the continous experiences only help make you better.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission for myself is to keep growing my skillset and gain more industry knowledge in order to be as successful as possible. There is so much to still learn even beyond my time at SCAD. Seeing my improvement over the decades only makes me want to keep working harder.
