We recently connected with Paige Rochefort and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Happy is an understatement. Being in my purpose and passion has been the most life giving experience on this Earth. They say when you align yourself in this life, doors begin to open. And I swear it to be true. There is such magic that occurs when you call out what you dream about, accept it as truth and begin to make it a reality. It’s the furthest thing from easy or straight forward. There are plenty of challenges and each person will enter that portal of their passion differently. And if it’s authentic to who you are, it will be worth all of the challenges you’ll face.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I create from a dream state. It’s on the more playful and illustrative side of creation and design. And I am often recognized and commissioned for my florals and line work. Often I create with bold and clean brush strokes and color. Layering in a structured and routine way. There is some dimension and then not at all. Really it’s just what comes naturally that I try to shine light to. This often leads to free-handing and just going with the flow. I do digital mock ups and design when I feel necessary and let the rest just flow.
I am in a season of commission work and therefore a lot of what I do is design murals, logos and paintings in my style but specific for the client.
In my free time I enjoy exploring and experimenting with other mediums. Often collage work and paintings are what I do independently.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I share this story often as it still continues to be part of my journey and lens for life: I am a cancer survivor. Since the age of 16 years old, I’ve been battling with thyroid cancer that spread to my lungs. Even still, although in remission, there are still traces that linger.
This completely changed my outlook on life. I began to witness the path I was being influenced to go down was not one of joy and in my need to feel strong enough to fight, I chose joy.
Since that very day, I have settled for nothing less than that. And once I finally accepted that art was a very large portion of my joy, the rest of my soul and health has thanked me. I create because it’s my life source. I don’t really know any better. I’ve tried other options and none of them felt as good as being an artist.
I am now on my second year of creating under my small business: Daydreams By Paige LLC and I am the happiest I’ve ever been.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think it is to simply pour my joy into my work and hope that energy reflects into the world. And that for every single person I meet on my path as an artist to feel the love and joy I have for them. I just want to be a source of light. I am extremely imperfect and I know I will fail sometimes. I already have many times. It is just the goal of learning from that, doing better and continuing onward. To remain resilient.
