We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paige Roberts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paige below.
Paige, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful today takes a lot of time and patience. In my profession you can’t just go to the salon and go home. There is still a lot of work to do when you are not in the salon. Social media is a huge part of my business, although I admit I’m not the best at it. Most clients find their colorists/stylists through Instagram. It’s the perfect platform to showcase your work with photos of your clients. I do like to post photos of myself and what I’m doing as well because I’ve learned that my clients enjoy that. After all you are building relationships and clients like to be involved. Attending hair shows and classes is also a must. These events help you to stay inspired and keep you up to date with the latest trends and techniques. .

Paige, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Paige Roberts and I am a colorist at The Songbird Society. We are located off of Knox and have the best team ready to help you with all of your hair needs and goals. Before I started doing hair I was a makeup artist and wanted to expand my horizons which is what brought me to cosmetology school. From there I found my home at Songbird. We are a departmentalized salon meaning we have stylists who cut and colorists. I love this system because it allows the ability to really focus and hone in on your craft. I color all types of hair from brunettes, red heads, to blondes. My biggest thing is keeping the integrity of my clients hair. I don’t believe in destroying the hair and will always let my clients know if something they want is possible or not. It’s important to be direct and realistic with clients to manage expectations and find a look that truly works for them while maintaining the healthiest hair possible.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Instagram. As I said earlier it is a wonderful tool to keep clients involved when they aren’t sitting in your chair at the salon. Clients love to see that you are going to classes and learning new techniques. It’s exciting for them, keeps you inspired, and gives you more to talk about when they’re sitting in your chair again. Educating your clients is so important and it’s our job to equip them with all the tools they need to achieve their hair goals in the salon and outside as well.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Although Instagram is a huge tool in promoting yourself and business, I still believe word of mouth is the best advertisement. It’s not just about clients loving their hair, it’s about the experience they had as well. As I said earlier you’re building relationships and clients want to feel heard and appreciated and when they do they tell everyone about you and that’s how you build a good reputation.
