Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paige Muller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paige, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Boxed Bites was an incredible accident that was born during the pandemic. I was living in New York City and in March of 2020 the city shut down completely. My now fiancé, Kashawn, and I moved back home to Dallas where I grew up. The summer of 2020 was filled with uncertainty, confusion and loneliness for a lot of people. I wanted to create something special to drop off at my friends homes as a little “happy” to brighten some tough times during the pandemic. Kashawn and I were having dinner together and thought about cheese + charcuterie boxes that we could deliver to our friends as a fun experience for them to enjoy. We ordered boxes, twine, lavender, cheeses, meats, fruits, etc etc and created these beautiful boxes. That afternoon, we delivered to their homes and everyone loved them. They posted on social media and immediately their friends started reaching out inquiring how to order. The idea quickly became focused on elevating delivery — by creating thoughtful, high quality gifts that are an experience for the recipient.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Paige Muller and I grew up here in Dallas. After college and graduate school, I moved to New York City. While living in NYC, I worked for a restaurant group where I began to truly appreciate and love the restaurant industry. In 2020, I created a company called Boxed Bites. Boxed Bites creates elevated, thoughtful, boxed delicacies made to order. We offer a variety of sizes from individual snack boxes to larger boxes for groups. Initially, we focused on cheese + charcuterie, however, now, in addition to cheese + charcuterie we offer breakfast boxes as well as dessert boxes. Our breakfast boxes are perfect for open houses, morning meetings, treats for teachers and team appreciation. Dessert boxes can elevate any event as a to go treat, afternoon snack for the teams and are great for any party. In the last year, we have also expanded into offering grazing tables – we create elevated grazing tables for any event and can customize with cheese + charcuterie, veggies + dips, breakfast bites and also dessert tables. Boxed Bites a very elevated, customizable experience and is a brand I am very proud of.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Starting a small business during a global pandemic was a challenge. Times were constantly changing and we consistently had to evolve. The initial concept of Boxed Bites was exactly that – boxed bites that were individually packaged. However, as the world started opening up again and people felt more comfortable gathering together, we wanted to pivot with our customers. At that point in time we began offering large party / grazing tables. At that point in time, we quickly learned that everyone’s comfort levels vary. Many customers still preferred the individualized cuties (snack boxes) while some preferred the larger tables. Listening to your customers wants and needs (while remaining true to your brand) is the key to success for any business and pivoting in order to accommodate.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Authenticity is key. Like everyone else, we started off with a blank instagram page and 0 followers. Our audience has grown as we have grown. I think people enjoy being part of something – part of a story – and watching a vision come to life. We showcase everything we are doing on social media – the good, the great, the hard, the bad and everything in between. We are authentic and real and share our story of growing this small business. Social media is the most consistent way we stay in touch with our customers. We are able to communicate with them on a daily basis which is absolutely incredible and so special!
