We were lucky to catch up with Paige Hendricks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Paige, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I have two businesses. One being an artistry business and the other being a massage therapy and energy wellness business. In both businesses my mission, or goal, is to help people feel good, and have a space where they can be authentically themselves. Art and healing are my two fuels in life. They are my purpose, and I truly feel that my gifts provide healing and happiness for other people. In my art business I don’t stick to one medium, I do different styles of art with different mediums, and I’m kind of all over the board. But that’s apart of who I am as an artist. My art can be silly, it can be whimsical and bright, it can be weird. And through my art I hope people feel positive emotions and relate to wanting to be authentic and weird in the best way. And with my massage therapy and energy business, I offer a space for people to connect to themselves, and to have a space to just be, without any responsibilities or distractions. I feel like both of my businesses reflect who I am- a creative weirdo who cares about people and shows them they can be themselves and also create a safe space to be, and to heal.
Paige, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a jack of all trades kind of person, and I’ve never stuck to just one avenue in life. I want to do everything! But my two biggest passions in life are art, and massage therapy. I have a massage therapy and energy wellness business called Mystic Healing Massage. I started my journey of massage therapy back in 2012, & graduated in 2014. When I discovered massage therapy I knew in that moment, that it was going to be the field I worked in. It felt right, and I never questioned if I wanted to do something else. I’ve always been drawn to the mystic side of life and I discovered I have gifts of my own, that I use through my ability to help through therapeutic touch. I offer massage therapy and energy rebalancing sessions for women in my area, because mind body connection is important to me, because it’s important to everyone’s overall health.
Art has been my longest love though. My earliest memories from childhood were around art. When I was four or five years old I remember saying “I want to be an artist when I grow up!” And I was told often that it’s a very difficult career to be successful in. But I have a need to create art, and share it with others. I paint, sketch, I make jewelry, resin art, and most recently I’ve begun to start doing murals with my husband who is also an artist. I want to learn things like soldering, and wood working, and stained glass making, and more. My husband and I are working to have a full workshop in our home one day so we can work on whatever we want when it comes our creative passions. I love doing custom artwork for people because it gives me a project to work on, and they walk away with a piece of art that is just for them. My art business is named Love Creation Artistry because I have a love for creation, and all my creations are made with love.
In both artistry, and massage therapy, I want to spend my life learning and sharing my healing abilities and art with the world and to become a master craftsmen of my trades.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
2020 was a hard year for most people, including myself, but that was the year I decided was going to officially start my art business and offer products to sell. The best milestones were when people would ask me to create a custom piece of art for them. My biggest milestone was when I sold a $300 pendant I had wire wrapped. It was a very difficult piece for me to make, and when it was finally done, it was victory and having someone pay me the price I had deemed worthy of my efforts felt really really good.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I feel that as a business owner you have to be resilient on a regular basis. There are times of success and growth, and times when you feel like no one cares and you’re not making any progress. It can be hard when you feel like the odds are stacked against you when it comes to people seeing you on social media, or sales aren’t good when you do vending events, or clientele is slow. I remember why I’m doing what I do though, so I can keep going.
