We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paige Freier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Paige, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
I just started my business at the beginning of the year. It has taken me six years to build the confidence to do so. During that time I was working as a manager at a restaurant. It was never my passion. The pandemic made me realize I just have to follow my dream.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started taking pictures on a professional camera in 2016 and completely fell in love with it. While shooting I try to make my clients completely comfortable and allow them to be exactly who they are.
My images reflect the interplay between subject and environment, exploring the ways in which we both mirror and influence the spaces we occupy and the people we love.
Knowing that there are multiple choices in making a photograph, I work intimately with my clients to co-create artforms by delving below the surface and finding layers unknown until that moment where light and magic meet.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I would have reached out to other creatives early in my career. Unscripted for photographers have been a life saver. Networking has also been incredibly important to my growth
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve always struggled with confidence and impostor syndrome. It’s something I actively work on.
