Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paige Broyles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Paige, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I mostly learned by trial and error but also a lot of help from the internet. I could have gone to a a professional and tried to learn from them but I’m glad that I did it my way because I feel that I would have relied too heavily on their approval of my work. I think that just showing up and practicing regularly was what gave me the discipline I have towards my craft. There are a lot of things that can come in the way of that such as: schedules, weather, and overall motivation but being willing to show up everyday even if its just in a small way is what made me get to the place I am in today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a photographer that specializes in nature and travel but honestly no subjects are off limits. I got my start when I bought a camera for film school I was trying to learn how to use it but instead ended up falling in love with taking pictures. I have been focusing lately on content creation to build a community of people together who also enjoy photographing the small details of everyday life. I am also preparing to head out to Alaska for the summer where I will be working as a photography tour guide.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the biggest benefits of being a creative is the connections I get to make with others. Art tends to have a way of breaking down all social barriers to build meaningful moments. For example, I recently went to a gallery where I was able to connect with all sorts of age groups because we had one thing in common: it was our love of being creative. The best part was that everyone practiced a different medium and we were all able to appreciate what we did.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Sometimes I wish I could just let everyone who does not prioritize creativity know that most people are practicing this way of life because we feel a strong calling towards it. I would also ask them to not discourage someone from pursuing this as a career for several reasons: first of all it’s just kinda rude but also because creatives are becoming essential to our cookie cutter society. In a world where everyone is carrying around the same water bottle and wearing brand name sweat suits we need someone with a creative perspective to make sure we are not just following things blindly. It is the creatives that keep us evolving as a society to make us better than the day before.
