We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pacha Vang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Pacha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My business name is PV’s Closet and originally, the Instagram account was just to resell gently used clothes and jewelry. Six months later, I moved to college to pursue my career in business, I began to make jewelry that would suit my sensitive skin and slowly enrich my craft skills to create unique pieces. It became my little space to improve my mental health. Jewelry started to stack up over time leaving less and less space for me. With the support of many friends and family, my hobby turned into a side hustle, and it continued to grow from there. This is why my business is built upon Pacha Vang’s Closet (PV’s Closet). A closet full of handmade accessories for everyone to wear for any occasion. I am truly grateful for all the support and love seeing others wear my creations daily!

Pacha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand works a lot with customized jewelry. I am grateful that I get to take part in the special day of a lot of people. We have been able to make engagement gifts, birthday, and wedding jewelry. Our closet truly believes that jewelry shows your inner character and personality which is why our accessories are uniquely handmade. We value quality products that will last us but will not hurt our pockets much. The base of our products is mainly copper and stainless steel. Copper is one of the safest metals for all skin types with proper care the lifespan of the jewelry would last up to at least a year or two. We not only make jewelry but also help fix jewelry that has been damaged and unwearable such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
When it comes to customization, we always consult with the clients to make sure that we can make the most comfortable and convenient jewelry for them. Sometimes clients want dainty necklaces to wear every day, but they tend to fidget with their pieces. This is where we can recommend a sturdier chain and fidgeting pendant to make sure the necklace will last. We have been able to solve a lot of client’s problems and we hope to continue to do so. Our closet is like your own accessory stylist but at an affordable rate.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Follow your intuition, I have seen so many other small businesses that could not last in the long run due to selling too many different kinds of items and not being able to keep up with it. In the business industry, one cannot please everyone. Just because one month is not going as well as before does not mean it will not increase again. Remember to always have purpose and values in your brand. Having a purpose will help one to continue to grow at a consistent rate. Your clients will naturally be attracted to your business as they see that your business does have a value of some sort. Therefore, this is how one can increase their audiences and how to make them remain your longtime supporters.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think that in every field, one will always feel like their products are not good enough. At least, that was how I felt for the first year of my business. It hurts a lot to hear that some people do not like your products because they think the items look ugly. I am blessed with my supporters. Time after time they have reassured me that I am doing a wonderful job and to pace myself as I work to avoid feeling burnt out. Personally, what helped me build my resilience was seeing my audience wear my jewelry. I do not need the whole world to wear my jewelry. I am happy to see the few people who wear my creations because I made them or simply because they truly like the art piece itself. As my confidence in my business increase so did my resilience.
