We recently connected with P.s. Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
P.S. , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When you’ve been a professional in an industry for long enough, you’ll experience moments when the entire field takes a U-Turn, an instance where the consensus completely flips upside down or where the “best practices” completely change. If you’ve experienced such a U-Turn over the course of your professional career, we’d love to hear about it.
Over the course of my professional career, I’ve experienced one of the most significant U-Turns in the health industry. A moment where the landscape of healthcare, wellness, and caregiving was completely redefined.
When I first entered this field, my focus was on health and athletic fitness. The mission was clear: help individuals prevent and mitigate chronic diseases and illnesses through proactive, preventative measures like fitness programs, nutrition plans, and personalized coaching. At P.S. Wilson Healthcare, we built a reputation on this foundation, spreading the belief that wellness starts with prevention and putting your health first.
Then came COVID-19, and everything changed.
The pandemic disrupted the very fabric of how we approached health. It exposed vulnerabilities in both personal and systemic healthcare, highlighting the importance of resilience, daily quality of life, and access to consistent care. For me, it was also deeply personal. Facing unprecedented challenges as I cared for my own aging loved ones during this time. The focus shifted from just prevention to immediate, hands-on care, particularly for the aging population, many of whom were disproportionately affected by the pandemic.
This shift drove P.S. Wilson Healthcare to adapt and evolve. Today, we specialize in caring for and managing the daily quality of life for the aging population through high quality in-home care services. From personal care and companionship to skilled nursing, we’ve become a trusted partner in the lives of families navigating the complexities of elder care.
But while our focus has broadened, we haven’t forgotten our roots. We continue to offer preventative services to corporations, conducting workshops and training under the banner of “Put Your Health First.” Our message is as urgent as ever: Your Quality-of-Life Matters. Whether it’s through managing chronic conditions or optimizing workplace wellness, our mission remains to empower individuals to reclaim their health and vitality.
This U-Turn from prevention and fitness to the comprehensive care of an aging population wasn’t just a pivot for our company. It was a reflection of the evolving needs of society and a call to action that I’m proud we answered.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m P.S. Wilson, the founder and Chief Wellness Officer of P.S. Wilson Healthcare, a private healthcare provider specializing in home health and corporate wellness. I grew up in sunny California, surrounded by a health-conscious community and a family that prioritized well-being in every aspect of life. From a young age, I learned the importance of habits, purpose-driven action, and the connection between physical, mental, and emotional health. This environment laid the foundation for my lifelong commitment to health and wellness, shaping my vision for how we care for ourselves, not just as individuals, but as a society.
I began my career focused on athletic fitness and preventative health, dedicating a decade to helping people mitigate chronic diseases through fitness programs, personalized coaching, and nutrition plans. At the core of this work was a simple but powerful belief: wellness starts with prevention, and putting your health first is the cornerstone of a fulfilled life. This philosophy became the driving force behind P.S. Wilson Healthcare, where we’ve built a reputation for empowering individuals to take proactive steps toward better health.
My path evolved when I became the caregiver for my two beloved grandmothers—one battling cancer, the other living with dementia. Witnessing their struggles firsthand gave me a deeply personal perspective on the complexities of caregiving. It also opened my eyes to the gaps in our healthcare system, particularly for the elderly. This experience inspired me to expand my work, transitioning from fitness and prevention to providing compassionate, personalized care for seniors and their families. It’s a mission that remains at the heart of everything we do at P.S. Wilson Healthcare.
At P.S. Wilson Healthcare, we provide personalized home healthcare services, including skilled nursing, personal care assistance, and companion services for the elderly and medically fragile. Additionally, we offer corporate wellness programs and workshops to help organizations improve employee well-being and productivity. Through our services, we’re redefining personal care. Potential clients should know that our brand stands for transformation and trust. We’re more than a service provider; we’re a partner in your journey to better health, providing not just care, but empowerment, education, and tools to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. For us, it’s not just about care, it’s about creating lasting change and building healthier communities.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Beyond training and knowledge, success in the healthcare field requires exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. As caregivers, trainers, and leaders, we operate in a world that often indoctrinates and rewards unhealthy lifestyles. Mismanagement of health has sadly become the norm, and choosing to prioritize health can feel isolating. Guiding individuals through this reality requires empathy, patience, and the ability to meet them where they are without judgment.
For clients, the mental and emotional challenges of needing care, especially when they can no longer do for themselves, are profound. Losing independence can bring feelings of frustration, sadness, or even shame. As caregivers, we walk a delicate line: providing the necessary care while empowering clients to retain their dignity and autonomy. This balance is an art, requiring compassion, deep listening, and the ability to build trust.
On the flip side, we as healthcare providers must also manage the personal and physical demands of our work. The saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup,” rings especially true in this field. Many caregivers struggle with self-care, as the demands of the job often leave little room for rest and rejuvenation. Statistics show that 23% of caregivers experience burnout, and up to 60% report neglecting their own physical and mental health. This highlights the importance of setting boundaries, maintaining physical fitness, and finding mental outlets to recharge.
Caring for others is a calling, one that requires not only skill but also an unwavering commitment to your own well-being. If you feel a passion and purpose to uplift others, to guide them through their challenges, and to make a lasting impact in their lives, this field might be for you. The work is demanding, but the reward of transforming lives is unparalleled. At P.S. Wilson Healthcare, we’re always looking for dedicated individuals ready to put health—both theirs and others’—first. Together, we can build a healthier, more compassionate world.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
For the first time in my life, I faced health challenges that completely changed my career and perspective on life. I had always been the picture of health, rarely sick, a lifelong athlete, and at 205 pounds with just 12% body fat, I was strong, disciplined, and driven. As a pescatarian, I ate consciously, trained regularly, and poured myself into coaching and guiding others toward healthier lives. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I started experiencing debilitating chest pain and swelling in my wrists and limbs. It was baffling—every test, MRI, and CAT scan came back “normal.” Doctors told me I was healthy, but my body was telling a different story.
As if that wasn’t enough, I was in a severe car accident one early morning on my way to the gym. A driver ran a red light, totaling my car and leaving me with a slipped disc and chronic back pain. That accident put me into nine months of physical therapy, during which I could barely move, let alone train or coach others. Adding to the frustration was a diagnosis of chronic inflammation and gastro chondritis, which forced me to completely reevaluate my eating habits and recovery practices. The weight fell off, I lost 40 pounds, and I had to rebuild not only my body but also my business and sense of purpose.
Through fasting, refining my diet, and learning to listen to my body in ways I never had before, I found resilience I didn’t know I possessed. This journey taught me that even as an expert in health, no one is invincible, and everyone has limits. It humbled me and gave me a new understanding of what it means to fight for wellness when the odds feel stacked against you.
Today, I’m stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally—because of what I went through. I share my story not just as a tale of overcoming adversity, but as a reminder that health challenges can happen to anyone, even those who live by the principles they teach. What matters is how you respond. For anyone facing their own battles, know this: resilience isn’t just bouncing back—it’s growing back stronger. I now use my experience to inspire others at P.S. Wilson Healthcare, showing that no matter where you are, there’s always a path forward.
