We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ozz Gold. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ozz below.
Ozz, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents gave me an unshakable sense of confidence and resilience. No matter what I set my mind to—whether it was excelling in sports, getting into West Point, or becoming a pilot—they always said, “Of course you can.” That kind of belief changes the way you see the world. It made me trust myself, take risks, and go all in on my dreams. It’s the same mindset I bring to music—betting on myself, pushing through setbacks, and knowing that if I keep going, I’ll get to where I want to be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a music producer and DJ based in Los Angeles, but my journey here was anything but typical. I went to West Point, graduated, and was commissioned as an Air Force officer— on track to become a pilot. During flight school I was diagnosed with a medical condition that ultimately forced me to leave the military.
At first, it felt like my whole path had been rewritten overnight, but looking back, it was the push I needed to go after what I truly love—music. I took that same discipline and drive and applied it to production, spending years honing my craft. Now, I get to create and perform music that connects with people, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, it’s two things. First, the creative process itself—there’s something truly magical about turning emotions into music, whether I’m alone in the studio or working with a vocalist. It’s like chasing a feeling and locking it into a track.
Second, is performing live. Seeing people react, feeling that energy, hearing them sing my songs back to me—it’s one of the best feeling in the world. That’s what makes it all worth it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the student mindset and fully step into being an artist. After leaving the military and going to ICON Collective, I was focused on learning and improving, which was great—but it made it hard to just go for it.
As a student, you’re always refining and absorbing, but as an artist, you have to trust yourself and put your work out there. I realized if I kept waiting to feel “ready,” I’d never actually step into my career. That shift—learning to stand behind my music with confidence—was one of the most important steps in my journey.
