OZS, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
There’s been good and bad moments in my life that have sparked music I’ve created! That’s why all of my projects have deep meanings to me. The most recent EP I put out (Black and Gray) is a project that definitely has the most meaning to me. The first song on my EP, “My Pretty Little Lover” is very special to me. Behind lyrics to my music there’s always a story. Feelings, thoughts, and emotions are all over that song, which is why it’s one of my personal favorites. A meaningful chapter is always unforgettable.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Born and raised in Arizona, I grew up in a household where music played a big role in our lives! My dad taught me how to play the drums at a young age. While I played the drums, he played the piano at a church we went to. Over time he slowly began teaching me how to play the piano. That’s when I entered a whole new world. Years passed and I started producing instrumental beats on my computer for my friends while in high school. My full name is Oscar Z. Sanchez and my friends started calling me by my initials, OZS. I ended up sticking with it! During the end of high school that’s when I began to sing on the music I produced. I noticed that making music is the way I express my feelings! We all go through problems and I felt that creating music gave me comfort, and an escape from reality. My goal has always been to create music for people to listen to, through the good and bad times! We all need a little bit of comfort sometimes and music plays a big role in some of our lives. I think that’s what I’m most proud of. I’m able to create music and comfort! I’ve learned that music that comes from the heart sets artists apart from one another. I want those that listen to my music to know that it all comes from my heart! Life can throw us up and down, but it’s a matter of getting up and moving forward and using the ups and downs to push you to your goal! Find ways to grow your creativity, and always shine bright, because you might light up the road for someone who needs it!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way to support artists, creatives, and even small businesses is to simply help out! No matter how minimal you think it is. As an artist that makes music, nowadays it’s free to listen to music, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to get people to listen to it. I’ve had people that impact my life and motivate me by simply listening to my music, sharing it, and even taking time out of their day to send me a meaningful message. That’s something that means so much to me. That’s why I’ve learned to help out with whatever it is that I can. Whether it’s a local business, a small brand, or other creatives, we all grow with each other’s support! It’s a matter of aiming for the stars and with each other’s support we’ll reach them!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal is to grow my music as much as I can! I want to make myself proud! I love listening to music that comforts me, that’s why I want to create songs that people can vibe out, or relate to. Life is a learning experience and that’s a factor that drives our creativity!
