Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Owen Walters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Owen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Yes Mo & Co Soaps does. We have supported a wide variety of organizations in the past and will always vary the organizations we support. We always choose organizations that benefit or help the world around us/make the world a better place.
Owen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a full time student, family member, and business owner. Juggling this many things can definitely be a challenge but I manage quite well.
I started Mo & Co Soaps with my best buddy in 2021. We both wanted to create a product that we truly felt great using. We knew how handcrafted soaps were high quality but we couldn’t stand how overpriced handcrafted soaps were. That’s why we created handcrafted soaps that were truly affordable. We were able to do this by cutting out all of the extra stuff soap doesn’t need in it, like designs and added color.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Mikie (my business partner) back in 8th grade science class. It took not even kidding, maybe 1 minute to start talking and laughing. Ever since we have been such good friends. We have been superglued together quite frankly ever since we met.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Yes, we manufacture all of our products in house. Our process first started in the garage and quickly moved to the kitchen and now we’re looking towards getting our own space where we can make more soap than we ever have before.
When we first started, we took $200, bought some materials on Amazon just to even see if making soap was a possibility. This really opened our eyes to the world of making things by hand, we instantly fell in love with the process of making soap.
