Hi Owen , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

The story behind my mission involves struggle and frustration mostly. I was a depressed bartender when I found a mystical book that opened my mind to the possibility that my life could have a deeper meaning. I didn’t understand that I could have a strong sense of purpose and I had no idea that I could find a way to lead a fulfilling life that was win-win-win.

I had gotten so far down in a pit of self-loathing and depression that I found myself taking a course online about how to be more social. I was in a place where I truly felt helpless and alone but during that course, the instructor mentioned a particular book that I immediately went and found a pdf of online. I completely consumed the book and because it was so valuable and helpful to me, I wound up making it into an audiobook.

I published it on youtube and began making explainer videos, implementing the ideas, and finding ways to troubleshoot the principles. It was responsible for helping me find purpose and I discovered a lot of tools, exercises, and processes that opened up the model and I have been able to share with people ever since. I’ve helped dozens of people begin to discover themselves at a deeper level and get a sense of what they’re here on this earth to do.

The name of the book that I found was called “Reality Transurfing.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I consider myself a ‘Blue Collar Mystic’ because I take esoteric ideas and complex practices and bring them down to earth. I love sharing mystical information and find that a lot of people make the information much more sophisticated than it has to be. If you’re teaching something, it should be simplified. Otherwise, it’s just an ego flex.

I started taking occult ideas and sharing them on my youtube channel (Bootsy Greenwood) in 2017 and from there have started a podcast called “Blue Collar Mystics” – an under the hood approach to the mysteries of human consciousness. I believe everyone is Spiritual and has the innate ability to connect to a higher power. I believe we’re all here for a reason and by discovering and implementing that reason, our lives can not only have meaning but can actually become a celebration.

I’ve been sharing these ideas freely and created a free course to help people who are new to the ideas connect in a straightforward way with short videos of instruction and exercises that I have found to be helpful over the past several years. That’s really the starting point for anyone who is looking to live a fuller and more meaningful life. If you’re not sure what you’re here for, it’s pretty hard to help you. I don’t know if a lot of people (myself included) ever really even considered what they might be here on earth for, or why. But there are answers to these questions, they just have to be teased out and no one can do it for us.

From there, I work with clients to help them implement their reason for being and put it into action in the real world. This is an ancient idea, known as IKIGAI in Japan and has many other names across the world. I love working with people to build their businesses, personal brands and find their niches. It’s a joy to share the information that I’ve picked up through the desperation and darkness that I went through.

What sets me apart is my practical approach to the Spiritual. This stuff isn’t complicated, it’s just been hidden, that’s what occult means – hidden. But if we look, we can find and apply. It’s just a matter of intention and focus.

You are here for a reason, not no reason. But no one can discover what that reason is for you. You have to do the work to find that. By doing the work, you’ll find more enjoyment and rewards in life and you’ll discover a part of yourself that you can be proud of. The process exposes us in a way that is terrifying but equally rewarding and puts us on a path to make our lives a celebration – not by attaining a far away goal, but simply by going on the adventure of accomplishing it.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

There are so many books that I could recommend. The first would be Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland and the second would be The Kybalion by the Three Initiates.

For anyone who wanted a more brief introduction to esoteric ideas, I would recommend a book written by Napoleon Hill who was known for the book “Think and Grow Rich.” But before he wrote that International Bestseller, he wrote a manuscript that wasn’t released to the public until 2011.

The book was kept under wraps until after his wife passed away because it would have brought a lot of scrutiny onto the family. The book is called, “Outwitting the Devil.”

It’s a page-turner, as Napoleon claims to have had an interview with the Devil himself. As outlandish as that may seem, once you start reading the book you start to question if he actually did speak to Satan, who reveals himself in the first chapter simply as: The Dark Side of the Atom.

Napoleon Hill interviews the devil and makes him answer some of the most challenging questions ever and the interview is probably way more engaging than an interview with the devil’s ‘opposition’. In the book, the Devil reveals his grand strategy for dominating the minds of most of humanity through what he calls, ‘the law of hypnotic rhythm’. He outlines his playbook for keeping institutions and governments working for his best interests and demonstrates how he gets individuals hooked on drugs, cigarettes and unhealthy food (keep in mind this was written in 1937).

This book was way ahead of its time and is full of insights and revelations considering Natural Law. The devil outlines 7 natural law principles that if people learn and understand, they can take control of their lives and begin to escape the limits that society has placed upon them through the devil’s handywork.

It’s truly one of the most fascinating books ever written and full of so much esoteric knowledge and wisdom. I recommend listening to the audiobook interview which can be found on YouTube for free. Just search ‘Interview with the Devil Napoleon Hill.”

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

My first business was funded primarily through working nights as a bartender. We began building an airbnb arbitrage business in 2018 where we would help homeowners rent their spaces on airbnb and profit share with them. It was initially bootstrapped but there were some units that needed outfitting and we made a deal with one of our partners that we would furnish the apartments in her quadraplex if she would split the rental fees with us.

I worked at the bar and took whatever cash I could to sink into furniture, beds, couches and decor and then we took the money we made from the first unit and immediately invested it into the second. We built out 4 airbnb units in her quadraplex that really had no long term rental appeal. We wound up renting all of those spaces out for weddings and football games and did very well at keeping the units occupied.

It turned out to be a very lucrative business until 2020, when we were forced to stop renting because of Covid. Fortunately, the owner was able to sell the property furnished and make a good deal of money on the sale. We were reimbursed for our labor and outfitting the units and I was able to leverage that into starting my coaching business in 2021.
