Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Owen Bleicken. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Owen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’m still learning every day. As corny as it sounds, we’re all life long learners. The greatest way I’ve gained knowledge is having by maintaining an active interest in as many art forms as possible. When reading a book I ask myself how does the text inform the visual on the cover? or when listening to an album I might ask myself, how does this narrative show up in the artists personal fashion or visual style? Taking stock of creativity wherever you might find it will help you carve out your own personal aesthetic sensibilities. I’m still very new to the industry but one thing I wish I’d started earlier would be blindly messaging/ scheduling calls with other working creatives online. I used to think working professionals wouldn’t have an interest in talking with an up and coming creative, but I’ve found that most working professionals are kind and used the help of those before them to get their starts as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am an up and coming designer and art director. I am a recent graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design where I studied Illustration and Publication Design. My professional interests span across all facets of visual design and art direction and I hope to land a role with a large brand or agency in an exciting industry. I am a keen observer of design trends an all things pop culture. I deliver immersive and tantalizing visual results on projects due to my eagerness to learn and ability to take direction and execute accordingly. Any time I can dive in and research on a project and start drafting ideas is when I am at my creative best.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to support myself entirely while working creatively. If I can lead a comfortable lifestyle while creating and honing my craft than that to me a full and enriching lifestyle.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Why not? I haven’t fully researched the area enough but anywhere commerce and art meet is exciting and beneficial to anyone looking to have a creative career. Who knows if NFTs are here to stay, but for now it’s a popular conversation topic and where there is talk there is jobs. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
