We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Otis Knowlton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Otis, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My name is Otis and I make pin badge buttons, I took the O from Otis and and put it with buttons and changed the S to a Z for a little razzle dazzle

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My entire brand started from a dream. I never wanted to the buttons life..the buttons life chose me. I started making some of the rawest buttons on earth..then I flooded the city with them. I use to sell them out of a duplex but I outgrew that place and decided to get me a store. I figured I’ll use the store as a cool event space since I had murals put up all over the walls. My entire building is covered in art. It is the worlds first Art gallery event space button retail store!

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Yes! I sell O’Buttonz merch. That includes shirts, hoodies, beanies, and buttons. I rent out the building hourly or daily. I sell online. I do popup shops, I do customized orders. I sell art.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Have a themed event and then hop into Facebook groups pertaining to that specific event and market and promote directly to the source as well as run ads
