We caught up with the brilliant and insightful O’Shea Woodhouse a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
O’Shea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I always had ideas as a child. My dreams were always prevalent in my life but my priority was making it out of the bad neighborhoods I grew up in and going to college to start a career that could free my mom from the struggle. Once I graduated high school I decided to dive into all my creative passions with the “all in mentality.” This meant I would study what made me happy such as Media, and I would use the time to craft my music, visual art, and fashion aspirations. This was the birth of my just jump in and share the vision, progress, and the process with the audience. No fear, even if it could be better, I would put my work out into the world. I learned that showing the process is more relatable than hiding behind a perfectionist perspective. This has shaped my idea to execution strategy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a man of God, a husband, and a father of two baby boys. I got into the art world first through a passion for words throughout grade school. That led to my love for music and the attempt to create my own sound. Being so engulfed in the music world introduced me to videography, photography, and fashion which were more tangible ways to provide services in exchange for money. My discipline was developed through the idea that no one was going to get me out of the struggle other than me. I had to make a way through God’s will, but with the dedication and work.
I found that video and photography would open doors for me that the other art forms wouldn’t. Once I developed the reputation and business of creating content, I was able to make connections to build on my music and fashion design. My supporters have shown loyalty to each niche in different ways. What some would say as I do too many things, I would simply respond with I am an artist that creates through multiple mediums.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would’ve dove deeper into cut and sew fashion design sooner in my career. The skillset is essential and it brings me so much joy to make clothes from scratch. I am currently more locked into fashion design than I have ever been. I feel that it is the lane that will now open doors and bigger opportunities.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to make progress year by year. To start the year with a goal and to execute it year by year with precision and clarity. 2023 is the year of education. I am studying fashion design and I am on the sewing machine daily, crafting. 2024 will be the year of the business plan and focusing on how to market my clothing and music.
