Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Oshae Willis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Oshae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I began my journey in 2018, but I often wish I had started back in 2013. After graduating high school in 2013, I enrolled at Western State Colorado University to study biology. Although attending college was the right choice for my parents, I always felt a deep passion for becoming a hairstylist or making a significant impact in the world. I moved to Colorado to be with my ex-husband, and it was during this time that we welcomed our beautiful daughter. As our relationship evolved, my responsibilities as a wife grew, which shifted my focus away from my passion. While I am incredibly grateful for my daughter, I can’t help but wonder where my career might have led me if I had pursued my dreams.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Oshae Willis, and I’m a new hairstylist based in Charlotte, NC. I specialize in hair extensions, coloring, natural hair, smoothing treatments, and eyelash extensions. From a young age, I dreamed of being part of the beauty industry. I was captivated by hair tutorials, frequently changed my own hairstyle, and often offered to style others’ hair for free. I understood the joy that comes from receiving a compliment, and I wanted to spread that happiness to others. I believe that helping someone feel confident can empower them to overcome their challenges, and that’s what I cherish about my work. I take great pleasure in making my clients feel their best.
What distinguishes me in this industry is the diversity of my clientele. My primary goal is to provide exceptional service to everyone, no matter their background. In addition to styling, I aim to offer products suitable for all hair types. I am incredibly proud of the journey the hair industry has taken me on, and I aspire to someday provide my services to celebrities or work on sets for TV shows, movies, and more.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had a better understanding of social media and the benefits it offers to small businesses. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are excellent tools for promoting your work and business, and I regret not leveraging them earlier in my career.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Throughout my childhood, people frequently told me that I was destined for greatness. I received compliments often and always seemed to stand out in a crowd. I often envisioned myself as a model or an actor, so I used hair styling as a means to network and connect with individuals in larger industries.
