Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Oscar Yuan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Oscar, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Yes, I am definitely happier as an artist and a creative. Being a music creator allows me to express my feelings and emotions in ways I sometimes can’t otherwise, and that expression is incredibly meaningful to me. Through my music, I’ve been able to connect with so many people—both online and in real life—people I never would have met if I had chosen a different path.
Of course, it’s challenging at times. The financial stability that comes with a traditional job isn’t always there in music, and that uncertainty can be stressful. I do sometimes imagine what it would be like to have a regular 9-to-5, especially on tough days when I’m struggling to finish a track or waiting on opportunities and response from labels. The last time I really thought about it, I was working late in my home studio, trying to get a sound just right. I remember feeling tired and frustrated, and the idea crossed my mind: “Wouldn’t it be simpler to have a steady job with a regular paycheck?”
But the more I reflected, the more I realized that even if I had a “normal” job, I would still be thinking about music constantly. It’s such a core part of who I am that not making it would probably drive me insane. That moment reminded me that the challenges of being an artist are part of the journey, and they’re worth it because of the freedom, connection, and fulfillment it brings.
Ultimately, being a creative allows me to live a life that’s fully aligned with my passion and my purpose, and no matter how hard it gets, I wouldn’t trade that for a conventional path.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Oscar Yuan, a rising dance/electronic pop artist, producer, and DJ from China and currently based in London. My journey into music started with a simple love for electronic dance music and the power it has in connecting people no matter where they’re from or what language they speak. I discovered music production at the age of 14 when I got the DAW Ableton Live and became obsessed with making my own tracks. Over time, this passion turned into a career, and I’ve focused on creating music that captures the fleeting beauty of life’s most emotional moments — whether it’s late-night nostalgia or hands-in-the-air euphoria.
My project is rooted in the spirit of connection, and my goal is to spread positivity and good vibes to every corner of the world with my music. What sets me apart is my emphasis on emotional depth & range — from nostalgia and melancholy to euphoria and hope. I believe music should evoke deep emotions while leaving listeners uplifted or reflective, and I focus heavily on crafting that balance in every track I produce.
For anyone discovering my work, I want them to know that my brand is about capturing fleeting moments, emotions, and nostalgia while leaving listeners with a sense of joy, reflection, and positivity. I am not just making dance pop — I am building a movement. One song at a time, I aim to cultivate a loyal fan base that feels seen, uplifted, and inspired by the music, the message, and the moment.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
From day one, “making music that makes you feel good” has always been my brand ethos. That phrase drives everything I create, whether it’s a feel-good dance pop banger, or an emotional electronic record. I put heavy emphasis on textures, atmosphere, and sonic storytelling when creating which helps in making the listeners feel something deeper while still moving their body.
For me, it’s not just about making songs that sound good on the surface, but about creating music that leaves listeners with a feeling they carry with them. I want my tracks to be the soundtrack to someone’s late-night drive, a memory with friends, or even a moment of reflection alone. At the heart of it all, my creative journey is about building that bridge between sound and emotion, and making people feel a little more understood, inspired, or uplifted through music.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A big lesson I had to unlearn is the belief that “hard work always guarantees results”. Over time, I realized that effort alone doesn’t always bring the outcome you want, especially if your energy is going in the wrong direction. For me, that showed up in music when I used to force myself to create constantly because I felt like I was falling behind if I wasn’t finishing songs fast enough. That pressure often led to burnout and music that didn’t feel authentic to me.
What I’ve learned is to trust the divine timing and orchestration of life. Creativity isn’t something you can force—it flows best when it comes naturally. These days, I focus more on catching inspiration when it arrives and working when the feeling is right. Like Skrillex once said in a Grammy interview, “success is something you attract, not something you chase.” That perspective helped me slow down, create more intentionally, and make music that feels true to who I am.
