We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Oscar Bautista. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Oscar below.
Oscar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Currently working on producing a music video for an upcoming single. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by amazing artists and creatives who I have the honor of collaborating with to make this dream a reality
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I can’t really land on one title, but hyper creative seems pretty accurate. I have a background in multiple disciplines and have aimed those skills into working towards building a production company.
I’ve had the privilege and opportunity to work with designers, producers, as well as fellow artists, all working towards amazing collaboration and projects. Yes some are just to pay the bills, but the environment we foster is always an amazing effort in community and creativity.
At the forefront is my music and audio productions. I go by Ruto when performing and that artistic venture has evolved into an singles, a debut album, titled Pan Dulce, psychedelic visuals and now a video in the works.
I keep my community in mind with what I do and am proud share this projects with people I respect and admire. Ultimately I’m about expressing creative joy by exploring various genres and themes.
I approach all my projects with this view in order to absorb and learn as much as I can from each experience.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
As a society we need to be able to engage with artists not as another branch of commerce.
The more we demote things to numbers and figures the more we narrow artistic expression. The value of a piece, whether it be visual, musical, or literary, is the emotional and personal impact is has on an individual.
Great if something becomes popular, but that doesn’t define something as better. We limit not only artists but culturally, if we continue to equate monetary value to and artist artistic value.
This includes considering an artistic path to be viable only if it generates capital. We are allowed as humans to pursue the arts as a mode of expression. You can be a professional and an artist they do not have to be mutually exclusive.
I think this can be further accomplished by supporting more arts programming in schools. Providing students with the opportunity to express themselves is a great way to promote creative thinking in all career and life paths.
In the end the arts are the universal mode of communication in humanity , why would we prevent ourselves from connecting with each other.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Simple answer, the freedom.
I only feel free when I create and it’s freedom only art can provide.
