Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Oscar Alanis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Oscar, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My record label started as something casual—I was recording a few of my friends who were talented musicians. We’d hang out, freestyle, and experiment with different sounds. At first, it was just for fun, but as I kept recording, I realized there was real potential in their music.
I decided to take it seriously and treated the sessions as professional projects. I taught myself audio editing, learned the basics of mixing and mastering, and even bought better equipment I thought, “Why not release this?”
I researched how to publish music and launched an independent record label. It was a steep learning curve—handling contracts, marketing, and distribution—but it taught me so much about leadership and entrepreneurship. The first single gained traction locally, and that motivated me to expand. Over time, we signed more artists and released several projects.
What started as a fun hobby turned into a platform that amplified not just my friends’ voices but also other emerging talents. It taught me how important it is to recognize potential in small beginnings and work collaboratively to bring an idea to life.

Oscar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Oscar Alanis, and I’m a 27-year-old visual artist and music engineer. I’ve been immersed in the music and art scene since I was 16, driven by a deep love for music and a lifelong connection to sound.
At Vulgar, the group I work with, we take a unique approach to creativity. We focus on making the music we’re passionate about, without compromising our artistic integrity. Rather than chasing trends or mimicking what’s already popular, we aim to create something truly original. While we respect and draw inspiration from industry leaders, our goal is to carve out our own path and ensure our music stands apart.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me, the goal has always been about uplifting my friends and the people I’ve met along the way. Their sound and character mean so much to me—they shape the music we create and the audience we hope to reach. My mission is to keep building something meaningful by bringing in new talent while staying focused on a core group of people. I want to grow, but in a way that feels genuine and true to what we stand for.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is the sense of accomplishment that comes from the time and effort I put into a project. Whether it’s something I complete in an hour or something that takes a year, each piece holds a special place in my heart. Knowing that what I create will be heard by others is incredibly fulfilling because it showcases the skills I’ve worked so hard to develop. It’s a way to share a piece of myself with the world. I can’t speak for everyone but I’m sure this feeling goes across the label.
