We recently connected with Osay Muse and have shared our conversation below.
Osay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Working as an IT Business Analyst has helped me generate a lot of ideas that help with the business side of being artist. One of the responsibilities I had was in the area of Digital Marketing. I was able to learn about running email campaigns and how that’s still the best form of marketing for sustaining long term fans who are committed and follow what I do. I worked with applications like Oracle Eloqua and learned how utilize tools like that, which help to set up marketing campaigns to folks who subscribe to email list. This was a big help when setting up my website osaymuse.com in making sure I included a place for people to subscribe.
Osay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So I my journey into music, has been an unlikely one, I don’t come from a family of musician so I picked it up as a kid when I began playing piano for my church. I then began to study under some great keyboardist and musician that I came across over time. After years of playing keyboard, and doing studio work I set out to create my own music and that’s when Osay Muse was born. I began writing and singing and released my first album ‘Stick to the Original’ in 2021 after having have internal conversations about who I was or would be in the industry I decided the best I could do was be my original self, so I wrote some songs about that journey. My Music is all about love, self discovery, Life, and navigation the joys and struggles of life through a hopefully positive life, that’s just fun. As part of my business I also like to give back what I’ve learned through teaching. I offer keyboard lessons, mainly focused on kids and adults who are beginners and want to learn music. I also do Studio Sessions where I lay down vocals, keyboard as just collaboration with fellow producers and artist.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yeah I think over the years you sort of learn as you go, but definitely one of the biggest things I’ve learned is being able to create an environment where your art can thrive. For example as a music producer I’ve had re-define my workspace and create a studio like environment with acoustic treatment and the like to make sure my home studio has the best possible sound and gives me the the space to invite other musicians to collaborate.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I think that youtube university has been a big blessing for me. Being able to find people that have help shift my focus or mindset to things that I wasn’t aware of at first. Especially in the area of business and finances and learning to adjust my spending into making investments towards my creativity and artistry. I’ve made investments in books, instruments, and equipment that have allowed me to grow in my craft. Also youtube, and other platforms like tiktok allow for a re-excitement of practicing, which as a creative can at times seem tedious but learning new things always brings joy to me.
