Alright, OSAMUDIAMEN thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of being an entrepreneur or creative is the kind of crazy stuff that happens from time to time. It could be anything from a disgruntled client attacking an employee or waking up to find out a celebrity gave you a shoutout on TikTok – the sudden, unexpected hits (both positive and negative) make the profession both exhilarating and exhausting. Can you share one of your craziest stories?

The craziest thing that has ever happened to me was a customer accusing me of being a fraudster and a scammer!

I met this customer online who placed an order for a flyer design. She informed me that she was referred by a customer that I had previously worked for. I then sent her a price list for my services and also stated that payment will only be made after she approves the design.

She agreed and I proceeded with the design. After numerous revisions, she approved the design and it was time to make payment. I was surprised when she asked me about my country of residence which my profile publicly displays. I replied, Nigeria. Immediately she stopped chatting with me and returned after 24hrs with a call informing me that someone told her that most Nigerians are scammers and fraudsters which was very shocking to me because I already offered the service required for me to be paid.

Finally, I told her to ask about me from the customer that referred her to me and also check my profile for other customers review.
She later called to make payment and apologised but never patronized me again. This proved to me that there are alot of people out there who thinks that Nigerians are scammers which ought not to be so because there alot of us who still believe in INTEGRITY and HARD WORK.

My name is Osamudiamen Ogiemwonyi but am popularly known by my English name Festus. I am first a preacher, motivational speaker and a gospel musician before I started my graphics design business KINGZART DESIGNS. I was introduced into graphics design by a friend who taught me the basics of designing and how to source for customers by offering my services in a freelance website.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?

When I started my graphics business, my customer base was very small at that time. The marketing strategy I adopted was to source out prospective clients by checking their profiles for poorly designed flyers, logos and other services I offer. Then, I redesign and send to the prospective customer to see if they are interested in making payment for my new design. Some showed interest with great pleasure, some declined and others never replied. This marketing strategy increased my customer base.

A short story that has proved my resilience in this journey is that of some customers who reviews their designs more than ten times! I do all revisions without grumbling or displeasure because I believe every customer deserves value for their money.
