Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Oryah Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Oryah, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
One thing I can say is neither of my parents ever discouraged me from pursuing a career in the music industry. This extends to my entire family in general, as no one has ever tried to steer me in other directions. I feel like they all know & have seen that I am talented in my craft/passions. Even my father tries giving me help & advice unsolicited, despite having an on & off relationship. I’ve also been blessed to have grown up listening to so much great music throughout my life from my family.

Oryah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Originally, I started off passionately pursuing a career as a Hip-Hop Producer. Back in middle school, I was making some pretty trash beats at the time while trying to compete with one of my best friends who was in the EDM scene. Over the years, he & I both got way better over time. He’s actually a successful producer now in Philadelphia named Dulanzo. Things were going well for me as a producer, especially after I locked in with local R&B singer Sebastian Summer.
However, during the pandemic, I lost my passion for making beats after a life-changing experience. This lead me into starting my website & brand titled “Wav.Max” back in May 2020. Through Wav.Max, I’ve published several articles, music reviews & song visualizers. The original goal was for me to have a platform to express myself creatively, but has now shifted to building a community of like-minded individuals who have a similar passion for Hip-Hop & anime. This year, the site has mainly focused on our anime-themed visualizer for new music that drops each week. I look up to RDCWorld1 & their brand a lot.
By the end of 2020, my itch for making music finally returned. This led to me beginning my career as a rapper after my fellow peers CozyClyde & S.A.V. introduced me to my longtime friend & audio engineer Nate Kobain. We’ve been locked in since then & I can say this is the most successful I’ve ever been in my career. I love rapping & writing songs. My biggest accomplishment was being a part of the Big Racks tour in Atlanta back in 2021 with Reemarkable. I’m looking forward to what 2023 will be like for my career growth wise.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Just genuine feedback & seeing people authentically feeling connected to my music. I’ve had people tell me my songs have made them cry or impacted their lives. It means a lot to me whenever fans or listeners are able to really feel the emotions in my writing whether it’s a happy or dark song. It’s a feeling that’s very rewarding & powerful, especially as an artist that really paints from the heart whenever I write.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Right now, I’ve currently been reading the book “All You Need to Know About the Music Business” by Donald Passman. Lots of great knowledge for anyone that’s in any area of the music business in my opinion. I primarily apply a lot of the information there to my Wav.Max endeavors. Eventually, I want to expand Wav.Max into being an official major record label one day soon. I’m in the phase of trying to learn everything I can about the industry beforehand, and a lot of the book still helps me out in the present with my rap career too.
