We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Orlando Corona. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Orlando below.
Alright, Orlando thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Since I was kid all the adults around me would say “If you want something, work hard for it”. Working hard is only a third of the equation to being successful. Took me years to understand this small factor. Studying the greats from Pedro Infante to Saul Canelo Alvarez I noticed something that was never told to me as a kid. The first anomaly was passion. Deviating from our parents wishes on being a lawyer or a doctor. Only you know the true passion you hold. Loving what you do is very important for many reasons. Remember, people notice if you hate or love the thing you’re doing. The last part of the equation is by far the most important. I say the most important because this is where the majority fails. The answer is discipline. Because bad days will come. Whenever you’re on your knees ready to quit, discipline will make you do what you need to do. The lack of discipline is the main reason that many dreams cease to exist.
Orlando , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The beginning of my journey was definitely unexpected. Purchasing my first camera for something completely different led me to my path. The goal was to make gaming videos on YouTube. The lack of knowledge on the subject of cameras led me to purchase a camera that was not capable to shoot video. Little did I know this was the beginning of what now is my business. Being the opportunistic person I am, I decided to go take some photos for the fun of it. I remember like it was yesterday. Holding down the shutter button and hearing the satisfying shutter sound of a camera whenever you take a photo. Realizing I could make a memory for the rest of time, the fire of my passion had begun to burn. The first years were rough specially because we were in the middle of a pandemic. Doing small jobs for friends and family gave me the experience to learn what I know today. Without the people that took a chance with me, I would not be where I am today. From the small jobs to fully owning “Corona O. Productions”. Landing commercial contracts was only a dream a few years ago. But my the passion combined with my discipline has allowed me to live that dream.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
A little advice on managing your team is recognizing their role. You as an owner will sacrifice everything from time to money for your business to succeed. That’s the role of “YOU” the business owner/manager. Understanding your role is key. Your team will help you reach your goals. Let me say that again. Your team will HELP you reach your goals. You, the owner; has to treat your team like if someone is helping you with something. Just like you treat your friend when they help you move, or when they come to the rescue when you have a flat tire. Be grateful for the help your team is bringing you. Because at the end of the day why should they try as hard as you when they are not getting payed the same as you. To manage a team successfully you have to get out of the boss mentality and get into the leader mentality.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Growing your social media is easy. A lot of work has to be done but it doesn’t take a genius to achieve the end goal. Three things are key to grow your following. Consistency, improvement, and being able to listen are the three things you should start working on. Consistency is key in this point of time because we are constantly getting bombarded by content on a daily basis. The more they see you the more comfortable they get with you. Gets to the point where they crave your content because they see it all the time.
Being consistent is not everything tho. Improving your content is very crucial. From learning a different way to edit your reels on Instagram. Or improving the audio quality on your YouTube videos. Always finding ways to improve is very important because you grow yourself as a creator but on the way you grow your following as well.
The last piece of advice is learning how to listen. If you’re on social platforms you’re bound to get hate by people no matter what. It’s bound to happen so it’s important to learn how to listen. On social media you’re always going to get a lot of hate or a lot of love for your craft. But it’s rare when someone gives you genuine advice on ways to improve your work. I make YouTube videos teaching people about my work and in one video a person commented “ I could tell you’re not an audiophile, you have amazing video shots tho”. So instead of ignoring the comment that I thought was hate at the beginning, I decided to listen to the situation and decided to ask him what he meant by that and how could improve whatever he noticed. He responded with a very kind and informative answer. Saying “ there is nothing wrong, I just noticed your audio levels are low, all I had to do was turn up my volume and the problem was fixed”. On my upcoming videos I made sure to improve on the mistakes I had made. Learn how to listen because if you spend replying to everybody that messages you or comments on your content you will not have time to be consistent or to improve on your skills.
