We recently connected with Ore-Ofe Iluyomade- John and have shared our conversation below.
Ore-Ofe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Umoja is a Swahili word that means oneness or unity. At UmojaFit, we firmly believe in the synchronicity of all dimensions of life. We believe that fitness goes beyond just physical but impacts various areas that helps determine the quality of our life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ore-Ofe, I’m the founder of UmojaFit. I have always loved being active. Growing up in Nigeria in a big family of predominantly boys, I enjoyed playing sports, riding my bike, play wrestling with my brothers. I was a tomboy. The idea of health and fitness was incorporated in my life by my parents so when I graduated college and wasn’t happy with the 9-5 blue collar work, I turned to what I was comfortable with, Fitness. During college and after my short live 9-5 experience, I always helped friends with their training or time on the gym so I found myself turning my side hustle into my main hustle.
Umojafit is a health and wellness firm that focuses on developing and teaching the practices of achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through various techniques. We believe fitness is a state of mind that guides the body to adapt naturally. Umojafit is all about the facilitation of reclaiming and owning the responsibilities to our own wellness; we have the expertise, the tools and resources to unleash everyone’s capacity to be his/her own health coach. At Umojafit, we believe in simple core values/principles that guide our passion.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I had a good return from Thumbtack during the pandemic but my best source of client lately is really word of mouth. I build relationships within my network, and referrals go a long way.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Building that relationship with each person and meeting then exactly where they are. I don’t like to sell my clients, I really try to help them out with what they are talking about, health-wise, providing information and offering techniques.
