We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ope Adekunle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ope, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning my craft has been a journey that started from the earliest days of my childhood. I remember grasping for items like crayons or brushes before I could properly hold a pen, expressing my thoughts through colors and forms when words were just beyond my reach. This innate passion for art was nurtured by my environment, filled with jazz music and an appreciation for culture which later influenced my ventures into music production and fashion design.
As I reflect on my learning process, I realize that the most essential skill was and still is curiosity. It led me to experiment, to dive into the unknown territories of sound, fashion, and digital art. If I knew then what I know now, I would have perhaps sought mentorship earlier in my career to shorten the learning curve. Mentors would have provided guidance, exposed me to new ideas, and helped me avoid common pitfalls.
However, one cannot underestimate the value of the obstacles I faced. They taught me resilience and gave me a real-world education no classroom Could ever teach.

Ope, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Ope Adekunle, a vessel of creativity with a mission to blur the lines between art, fashion, music, and modeling. My journey began with a brush and a palette, as a child who found his voice in the vivid storytelling of paintings. That narrative power of art translated into every thread I weave in my fashion designs, every beat I craft in my music, and every step I take on the runway.
In the art sphere, I create digital and physical canvases that speak in the language of emotion, using vibrant colors and intricate patterns to tell stories that resonate on a universal level. My fashion work extends this narrative, offering not just garments but wearable stories that honor tradition while embracing the boldness of modernity. My designs have graced international runways, eliciting accolades and sparking conversations about the future of fashion.
As for music, my productions are eclectic symphonies that resonate with a global audience, characterized by innovative soundscapes that bridge diverse musical traditions. In modeling, I use my presence to transform fashion into a dynamic narrative, one that complements the artistry of the designs I wear.
The problems I solve for my clients and audience are those of expression and connection. In a world often overwhelmed by the mundane, I provide an escape into realms of beauty and innovation. My work is a dialogue, a way to communicate complex emotions and concepts through more than just words.
What sets me apart is my multifaceted approach to creativity. I don’t just paint; I tell stories. I don’t just design; I invoke heritage and forecast future trends. I don’t just produce music; I create auditory experiences. And I don’t just model; I embody the art I represent.
I am most proud of my ability to seamlessly move between these forms of expression, to remain authentic in each while also bringing them together in a symphony of creativity. For those who follow my work, I want them to know that each creation is a piece of me, an invitation to explore the depths of creativity and to be inspired to find their own voice in whichever medium speaks to them.
In the end, what I offer is not just art, fashion, music, or modeling — it’s an invitation to a journey, a shared exploration of what it means to be profoundly human through the lens of creativity.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the profound ability to inspire others. Now, I see my creative path not as a road less traveled, but as a journey that is essential and deeply rewarding. There is an ineffable joy in creating something that resonates deeply with another human being, bridging the gap between individual experiences and universal emotions. Whether it’s through a painting that speaks without words, a fashion piece that tells a cultural story, a melody that stirs the soul, or a stride on the runway that embodies confidence, the power to move people, to make them feel seen, heard, and understood, is the true gift of creativity.
My Cousin Ash Hamman and I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the company IMQ Entertainment is not merely a business, but a platform for artists to redefine the musical landscape. Now, I see my creative path not as a road less traveled, but as a journey that is essential and deeply rewarding.
This inspiration goes beyond the aesthetic; it’s about sparking a dialogue, igniting a passion, or even offering a new perspective on life. When someone tells me that my work has motivated them to pursue their own creative dreams or has provided comfort in a challenging time, that’s when I feel the success of my craft. It’s about the legacy of empowerment and the ripples of influence that extend far beyond the initial act of creation.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A profound lesson I had to unlearn was the societal belief that creativity is a frivolous pursuit. Growing up, I was surrounded by voices that saw creative endeavors as secondary to more ‘serious’ professions. This environment instilled a hesitancy in me, a reluctance to fully embrace my artistic inclinations. For almost two decades, I battled with this internalized stigma, which cast a shadow of doubt over my passion.
The backstory to my eventual unlearning is one of persistence and gradual self-acceptance. I realized that creativity is not just an aspect of my identity, but the core of it. It took years, but slowly, I began to peel away the layers of doubt and replace them with a firm belief in my own vision. I learned to measure success not by external validation but by the fulfillment I found in my work.
Regaining confidence in my creativity has been my life’s most significant turnaround. It allowed me to not only cultivate my talent but also to appreciate the unique value that art brings to the world. Now, I see my creative path not as a road less traveled, but as a journey that is essential and deeply rewarding.
