We were lucky to catch up with Onyebuchi Okeke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Onyebuchi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission of protecting and preserving the rights of employees. Employees serve a unique function in every industry, the question then is how do we protect the rights of employees? This is where the court system come in. I have had a fair share of my rights being violated as an employee, and some times you feel like it is the sacrifice you have to make to keep your employment. However, its okay for one to be used, the issue is being abused.
So, the mission is to ensure that the rights of employees at the workplace are protected as much as possible from abusive employers.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an employment law attorney practicing in Los Angeles, California. Ever since I could imagine, I have always wanted to be an attorney. I started my legal journey from Nigeria, I went to high school at King’s College Lagos. I studied law at University of Lagos. Then got licensed to practice law in Nigeria in 2012. I practiced in both the criminal and civil divisions in Nigeria before relocating to the United States of America in 2015 to pursue a Masters Degree in Law at the University of The Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Sacramento, CA.
Since my graduation from McGeorge School of Law, my goal has been to become an attorney in California. Prior to being licensed in 2021. I worked at various law firms in California, and I currently practice labor and employment law where I represent Plaintiff’s in cases involving wrongful termination, FEHA, meal and rest breaks, overtime and other employment law violations.
I am most proud when I get justice for my clients, when I win my cases, or settle my cases, and when I get to see my client’s face light up when their cases are won.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Lead by example- be the first in, last out. Show freedom of expression of thoughts, and freedom to fail. Let them count that even if they fail, you will always stand by their side, and not throw them off the bus.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have had to overcome quite a bit, from overcoming paralysis after ingesting a medication that resulted in me having complications which led to paralysis of my left sides. I had to believe that was not acceptable to me, and I had to literally, strengthen myself and overcame that issue.
