We were lucky to catch up with On’Nykah King recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, On’Nykah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

It’s take a lot to be successful I mean a lot. It isn’t easy but they best way to keep going is trusting god, having passion, and being patient. All these steps helped me and is still helping me grow as a business owner and also my business as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello Beauty’s my name is On’Nykah I go by lyric , I am a Kansas City Makeup Artist. I’ve been doing makeup since I was 15, fast forward to when covid semi dyed down I received my first client. During covid I took that as the time for me to prefect my craft and officially build my business. I was very dedicated to becoming a self taught good makeup artist. Sleepless night of playing in makeup and jotting ideas down for my business turned into reality. Lyricdollhouse is the name I came up with the reason of is because I was known for my middle name lyric and I was very girly always got the compliment of how gorgeous I was and how I looked like a doll. I started off very low and I was okay with that knowing one day I will reach my goal of the amount I will charge in the future also this was preparing me to continue to work on my craft such as skin tones, face shapes, and more so that I will be officially ready to take off being a Celebrity Makeup artist. My services Is all about making my clients feel comfortable and glamorous. To me makeup is another way of expressing beauty. I love for my clients to feel soft , and lightweight and very natural. As years goes by as a now known KC makeup artist I won best young entrepreneur from the KC people choices awards, I started working in shops, and also received a lot of good opportunities and love. As a young entrepreneur I received a lot of support and help!, although I was young I was always passionate for what I do and want to reach my dream. Last but not least my brand is to bring out more of beauty from all women and help them build more confidence and even help stepping out there comfort zone .

How did you build your audience on social media?

Building a audience wasn’t very hard for me because I was always talents it was more so building a audience for something I know that will be a process. Although I was a beginner Makeup Artist I would post my work at day and time. I would be up doing video tutorials on makeup and Always was consistent . Building audience from social media isn’t easy. Being consistent and passionate about your business is all you need. It will be days where you receive a lot of love and views and there will be days where you receive very low views but it’s all about trusting god and staying consistent.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Since I started at a very young age I was still in school through online. So I considered it my side hustle. Once I started working a part time job I only did makeup on my off days. By my senior that’s when I took full advantage in working for myself and becoming a full time makeup artist. Although I love being a full time makeup artist being able to experience different clients and enjoy them it does come with a lot some days can be slow and some days can be fast but being consistent always helped my business stay in track specially being unemployed and working for myself
