Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Omoghéné. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Omoghéné thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
My whole music career has been a risk. I used to ask God why couldn’t He make me someone that liked the easier things, but I learned through Him that there is no such thing as complete security and any and everything requires taking risk, a jump or a leap of faith. So I decided to take a risk on myself with becoming the artist that I wanted to be for the world to see.
Omoghéné, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I been singing since I was seven years old. I started out singing at every talent show and school rally that I could get in front of. When I was thirteen, I joined the church choir. I sang so much I started to feel like it was in my DNA. Like I can’t imagine my life without music. That’s why when I told my parents, I no longer wanted to go to law school and that I wanted to be an artist, they weren’t surprised at all. I’ve been marching head on every since.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That I don’t have to do everything on my own. Teamwork really makes the dream work. I used to believe that doing things by myself got things done faster, but being in the industry you have to learn the concept of team.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The book Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger – it really taught me the power of word of mouth. Yes we have social media, yes we can pay for ads and yes there are people that even buy streams and followers, but what does that help if people aren’t really talking about you outside of the internet or really showing up to your shows?
