We were lucky to catch up with Omavi Waite recently and have shared our conversation below.
Omavi , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Well, I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative / artistic path was when I knew I had to share my writing/visions with the world. I got much feedback when I started to write my poetry on Facebook and people read what I wrote. Poetry came to me in my sophomore year of high school, and once I figured that out, I knew that was the medium in which I could express myself and my abilities to the world. I knew I wanted to take it further into a career path when I realized my writings helped people, based on the content and feelings they got when reading it. So from there I decided to keep on with writing, so it can help me understand myself more, and the world in front of me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For starters I am a writer, i authored 4 poetry books, all apart of a series called “ The Symphony Series “. My services are writing, helping people understand their feelings/emotions, processing ideas, and helping/ aiding in mental health issues. I myself have dealt with mental health issues before so I usually help people understand more of themselves and what it is they are going through. Along with my books I also made 2 poetry audio albums, to exercise my voice and let the world know that I not only write poetry, but I also recite it as well, as I’ve been told many times before that I have a golden voice for poetry, so I took that and started to recite. I didn’t talk much when I was younger so reaching this opposite extreme to where I am reciting and writing and performing in front of people with my craft is absolutely amazing, and shows much growth in myself and in my work. The main thing I’d want people to know about me is I am a deep and introspective person, but I am also very expressive and creative. I am also a great visionary and I write what I see and feel. What would set me apart from others, other writers in fact, is personally, my writing style is paragraph format, I usually write in long paragraphs and my poetry takes up a page usually. I also recite spoken word poetry and the themes of my work are very philosophical, metaphysical, psychological, spiritual and deep. I also have a big vocabulary so I use a lot of expressive words as well when I create my pieces. I consider myself one with my work, as I write, I express myself, and I express my life.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
A particular goal/ mission, driving my creative journey is self healing, self loving, and self respect. Growing into my expression and allowing my voice to be heard. I want to heal those with mental health issues and those who are limited in there expressions or are afraid to really voice themselves and who they are. I’d also love to help people find their creative niche, or what medium they best express themselves with. The path that I choice, I envision that it will help others, because I have used it to learn and understand myself much more, which lead to self growth and understanding.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Well, I believe something non-creatives will struggle to understand is that everyone is a creative, and everyone has something they can share with the world, from their personal mind and soul. Will they believe or want to share that? That’s not for me to decide, that is upon them. What they will benefit from is that if they do follow their passions, and what fuels them as a human being, is that they will heal all the areas of their life that they are probably out of balance in. Everything is connected and aligned, so if they listen to themselves and follow what speaks to them, they will achieve more and have more fulfillment within them. Even if you are scared of what may happen, it is always worth it if you follow that inner self that speaks to you.
