We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Omarie Sotomayor / Kelly Vallejo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Omarie Sotomayor / Kelly Vallejo below.
Hi Omarie Sotomayor / Kelly Vallejo, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
The answer is definitely yes, since this has allowed us to be mothers present at each stage of our children’s lives. In the past we were employees, and in fact we also spent some time working together outside of Creaciones Entorno, so we already know what it’s like to have a normal job.
Both scenarios have their pro and its cons and yes, sometimes a normal job has crossed our minds when the difficult times of the business arrive, but we sit down, take our time, reflect and change strategies so that the business can continue running and without stopping working even when there is no motivation or desire. We think of our families and everything we have achieved, the talent we have and the desire to continue growing so as not to stop for a second.
We also look for new trends, other ways to capture the attention of customers, we seek advice, workshops and others to continue innovating, always giving a little more than yesterday to be better every day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are two entrepreneur women who want to get ahead with their effort, creativity, and discipline to have the same opportunities to support our homes as we could do in any other job.
At first it started as a hobby that we did for ourselves, family and friends. Then we began to see the good response we had and that’s when we decided to do it for clients, then from being a hobby it became our passion.
When we started our creations were simpler, but with the passing of time and continuous education with workshops, videos and tips, our designs are now more elaborate, which adds more value to the final product and has a better reach.
We currently work with a wide variety of products. Among the best sellers are the boxes for children, the candy repackaging, and the cake toppers. All personalized and according to the theme and colors that the client wants.
Also, in the months of June and July we work on a season of personalized items for back to school. Among these items are the covers for notebooks, vertical labels, tags, stickers and labels to identify the materials. It is a season in which every year we do very well.
According to the reviews that have been sent to us, our customer service, the impeccable work on each piece, the packaging of our products so that everything arrives in perfect condition, make the difference in the shopping experience with us. Apart from that we always add a small detail in the shipment as a thank you.
Each review, each word full of thanks and the photos we receive of children celebrating with their favorite party theme reason that fills our soul with happiness and pride. Seeing that your work brings happiness to others is an indescribable feeling.
In crafting you do not pay for a product, but you invest in happiness and memories for a lifetime.
How did you build your audience on social media?
This issue has been one of our most important challenges for the business and we continue to work on.
At first, we did not feel a need to have so much presence and we worked on social networks with a very structured format in terms of photos and videos of the articles we were creating for each of our clients. But as everything changes it was time to update ourselves, so we gave ourselves the task of researching and analyzing pages and content of people who have a greater volume of followers and interaction.
We started having custom queries of strategies and content that were relevant to our work that are trending. With a lot of nerves and without knowing what the response of the viewers would be, adapt our content having more presence of us to be able to have that “click” with our followers and sharing valuable content for both our clients and our colleagues.
Our advice to all those people who start in social media with a business would be to have more personal presence, to share valuable content for their followers and above all to always stay updated with new trends.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Well, in our experience to start in this craft business it was not necessary to make a large initial investment since with the materials we had and with the creativity that characterizes us, at that time, we could progress and start with our hobby. While creating personalized items for our close people, we had the opportunity to buy our first cutting machines and some specialized tools to improve the quality of our products. And so, with that minimum investment we started the business for clients outside our circle of family and friends. Once with the established business we began to invest in workshops and courses as we were making new orders to stay on trend.
