We recently connected with Omar-Tiago Earnest Jr and have shared our conversation below.
Omar-Tiago, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I think the #1 thing my parents did right was they raised me off love, never survival over love. It has impacted my life because a lot of people will cheat you and try to get over on you in life and it can be for the biggest dollar in business or it can be just to get ahead in life. My parents taught me about putting God first, putting in hard work, dedication, being determined, having discipline and that drive that won’t allow you to fail. The impact of having my mom and dad both live together while raising me has been tremendously. I received soft love from my mom and tough love from my dad so, I got both world’s. Everything they have taught me from life lessons or experiences, I incorporate them with my journey to success every day. With the knowledge and tools they have made accessible to me, I couldn’t have asked for any better parents.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Outside of my business, I’m a 22 year old college student at EMU studying Criminal Justice. I’m also a corrections officer. I got into the cleaning business when my mom and I had a brief conversation back in 2021 about my brother and I having a business. My brother did not take the opportunity but I ended up doing so as you can see. I picked cleaning because I’m OCD everywhere I go. I just randomly start trying to clean things or move things around. I also saw nobody starting a cleaning business in Michigan who cleans cars, businesses, houses, and etc. My craft that I have formed over time is definitely unmatched. The way people detail cars are totally different than the way I do them. That’s what makes me so special. I detail everything by hand. My clients come to me upset that their car is dirty and I fix that problem every time. I’ve never had one unsatisfied customer that wanted a refund. I think what separates me from others is that I would rather have my dignity, pride and integrity vs scamming people for their money and not making sure they love their cleaning done by me. I’m most proud of how far I have came and the amount of work I have done for people and my business has not been operational for 2 years yet. I also want potential clients and followers to know, I’m always ready to clean and I’m super easy to communicate with. I can answer any questions that present themselves.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The advice I would give people just starting to build the social media presence, make a separate page for business and personal. Some people start a business page on a personal page they’ve had for 5+ years and that’s not a good business look. You’re mixing your personal life with business. You may think people aren’t watching but they definitely are. They’re waiting for you to fail. Or they can be looking to see how you carry yourself and how would you like on your business page, smoking weed and being sloppy drunk. You could run away a lot of clientele. A lot of people don’t want you to succeed as it is. Don’t give them fuel to ignite the fire. And for social media, people are practically on their phones every day all day. You can easily promote your business on all of your social media platforms. I use instagram, snapchat and tiktok. I’m also about to add facebook.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Yes, I am a business owner but, I believe in having more than one income. I also have a primary job as a corrections officer. So when it’s time to fund my business, I would usually have money set aside for it to purchase my cleaning supplies or cleaning tools. Typically, I would spend $50-$100 and those supplies would last me a couple jobs until next time to complete another cleaning.
