We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Omar Lemus Ramirez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Omar below.
Omar, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My main goal for what I do was and still is to just document. To document every aspect of my life, So I’m not entirely sure but I hope that these photographs cement my legacy of just my life overall, you know. I want to be known for what I do and what I’ve done in life. And Through photography I’m able to do both. I’m currently in my second year of my decade long project. And I’ve done so much just in that matter of these two years. So it’s good to have those memories in my life immortalized forever. I kind of went on a small tangent but to answer your question, I hope my legacy will be that I lived. take that how you please.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My name is Omar Lemus Ramirez and I am a Film Photographer based in Austin, Texas. I got into Film Photography through my mother whom during my childhood would capture every moment of it through VHS recordings and disposable cameras. From that, I came up with a life goal to document my twenties, so I started taking film photos at nineteen . And as of right now, I am currently 21 years old and hitting my second year doing this. I have done everything from landscape scenery, photoshoots, and concert photography. As well as capturing special moments in my life in-between it all.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Life. That’s as simple as I can put it. One word to sum it up:Life. Through my life I’m able to continue my journey. But through Film Photography I was also able to find new things to capture outside of my life. And that’s what has been motivating me in this journey of mine recently. In this past year I was finally able to do jumpstart my passion for photoshoots and concert photography. Started doing photoshoots for friends of mine and as for concerts, I’ve taken a lot of good shots from being in the crowd. Taken pictures of Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, Rex Orange County, Omar Apollo, Duke Deuce, Sheck Wes, Travis Scott, Jack Harlow, Young Thug, and Gunna. Free YSL by the way. But those are some artists I’ve taken photographs of from the crowd to name a few. Currently, I’m working my way into getting an SLR but my point and shoot cameras have honestly been doing me justice. So that’s my next goal currently. I want to take my photoshoots and concert photography at a more professional level. Can’t really do that with a simple point and shoot.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect in all this, is the community . When I first started, I only had a couple people to look to when it came to Film Photography. But as of now, there’s a wide range of people that I can go to for advice and gain inspiration from. The film community is crazy. There’s film photographers for everything. I got my friend Zach from Paris, Texas. He always helps me when it comes to what I want to do in the future sense of photography, how I can do it and also ways on promoting it too. I hope to be able to promote my stuff at his level. Then there’s Richard who I go to when it comes to developing and scanning my rolls of film. Which I do over at his Film Lab LagoVista FilmLabs in Austin, Texas. He has been a huge help not only at developing my photographs but also when it comes to helping me as a photographer. To whenever I need recommendations for anything regarding Film and he also always has amazing stories and great insight on all things Film. Holland Photo Imaging is another Film Lab that I go to when I am in need of purchasing film, sometimes also when I need to scan and develop my rolls. The staff has been with me from the beginning and are always so helpful, caring, and just the best people you will ever meet. My loyalty will forever be with these two labs. And then there’s my friends Richard and Isaiah, who were there for me from the beginning in getting started with film. Huge help and really important in my journey with all of this. Love them, those are my brothers, truly. Last but not least, my friend Cole from Coppell, Texas who goes to Texas State with me over in San Marco, Texas. I met him last year and that is my Film bro. My dude. I go to him first about everything in Film. When I have new pictures developed, I send them to him first. He is an amazing person and a really great friend I’ve made during my journey with Film Photography. I really trust his opinion because I look up to him a lot. He’s improved so much as a photographer in such little time and It’s impressive and inspiring. I take every ounce of advice and hold onto it. He’s truly been a huge help in my motivation and journey with all this in the past year. Very proud of him. Like I said, the community is huge and welcoming. These people are just great examples of that. It’s definitely rewarding and I love it.
