We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Olya V Lin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Olya, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I put business owner as my main descriptor because I own two businesses. One is NeuroPolitan and the other is Megankaymotivate LLC, a lifestyle and fitness focused business. Truthfully, though, I do more than this. I am also a musician, a model, and a psychic medium. Some of this is for my own joy and growth like modeling for example, but the other things all revolve around pushing compassion and care for others into the world. Every business I have or will start is revolved around making other people’s lives better and caring.
Whether I am working with spirit to bring peace to others or helping somebody heal from childhood trauma, I am committed to making the world a better place in this way. With that, when I die I would like my legacy to be this: that people think of me and feel more peaceful, know they can achieve great things, and know that they too can rise up from hardship to something better for themselves and their families. I want my legacy to be a light I leave for others with all that I do.

Olya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
This is a big one. Everything that has lead me to where I am has to do with my upbringing and how I chose to handle it. I was born in Moscow Russia and adopted to an American family at age 2. This family ended up being very unhealthy to the point where I left them completely around 4 years ago. I knew throughout the abuse and hardship growing up that I was not meant to stay in it and that my purpose here on earth was to heal others and to be a light for others. While I was still in it however, I did birth NeuroPolitan, a small branding agency that offers videography, photography, website building and management, and has custom packages for each person/company. I learned a lot from this company early on and am very thankful to still have it running today with our current clientele.
Although I had some success while still in the midst of the abuse, I knew that in order to heal and become a better person for myself and those around me that I had to leave (after trying everything else of course). Once I did this, I would be lying if I said it was easy. That said it slowly has been a healing experience. This experience has lead me to birth Megankaymotivate LLC, my health and wellness related company. I believe this was able to exist due to my own healing and work I put in. I was already talking a great deal about narcissistic abuse and such things on social media for a few years, so moving into a company where I am a NASM trainer and lifestyle coach that works to help people heal was simple.
As a lifestyle/fitness coach my goal is not to help you process the emotions and trauma. I am not a licensed therapist, though I am considering whether that would be a good move for this. I do recommend however that people have one when working with me because my goal is to help you create a space where your brain can say “I feel safe now and I can do this work while also living life.” I work with adults only at the moment and focus on action steps. This is something that means a great deal to me as it is what I have wanted to do, but was too afraid to do at first.
What sets me apart from others is a mix of my tumultuous upbringing and my healing journey in the face of it.
I have and still am always doing the work to live a more peaceful and happy life. I not only know the science (I also have a neuropsychology degree) but I have the lived experience of having to make the choices so many people find it difficult to make. I want people to know that if they are having trouble walking away from toxic people and/or handling life after that they have somebody who they can go to.
Overall, I will always be striving to do more and to keep going. With any of my businesses, know that you are in the hands of somebody who cares deeply for others. I got you. All you need to do is ask.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I truly believe that resilience has been a constant in my life, but for the sake of this interview, let’s talk about NeuroPolitan. When starting NeuroPolutan, I had my abuser telling me that I was dumb for getting a masters in Entrepreneurship and I should get “a real job”. This continued until I got my first $12k job and suddenly they wanted to work for me. You can imagine that I said “no”. I even found out that my professors did not think my business would be the surviving one out of everybody else, but here we are 4 years later.
NeuroPolitan had a lot of pivots and failures too. I had to learn how to manage interns (not as easy as it looks), how to keep up with financials, and advertise my business. I am proud to say though that I kept at it and now NeuroPolitan gets clientele by word of mouth. I don’t have to do much anymore in that regard,
The biggest thing I learned here is that we will have people who disagree with what we are doing pretty much all the time. but that shouldn’t stop us from moving. That movement could really change our life once we hit the right step.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When Megankaymnotivate LLC started I was actually only trying to do personal training programs. The programs were for weight loss and building strength, but as I worked on social media, I didn’t feel like fitness training was enough. The more people I spoke to and the more I thought of my own experiences, the more I realized that in many cases there needed to be a holistic focus to health. This is when I decided to mesh my abuse recovery life coaching program that I created 3 years ago with fitness training. Suddenly connecting with people was much easier and it also worked better for me. I feel like a key part of my businesses is me and my life experiences. This is why doing “just fitness training” was not working. There had to be something more specific attached to it.
Another pivot that relates to this is about the creation of the abuse recovery program. 3 years ago when I made it I was so proud of myself, but due to the focus on leaving my family, I had to stop pursuing my program, Focusing on healing in my personal life caused me to have to pivot and pause all of my goals but I am happy to say that I can now work on these goals again.
