We were lucky to catch up with Olunife Ofomata recently and have shared our conversation below.

Olunife, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I started my business because as I started taking a holistic approach to care for my skin, I started to see so many other benefits. Many of us grapple with imbalances; bloating, dehydration, inflammation, and an overload of toxins. These internal struggles don’t remain hidden – they manifest through our skin, revealing themselves in forms like acne, puffiness, dryness, dehydration, and uneven skin tone.

This sparked a thought in me – what if there was a transformative solution that could address these issues at their root, from the inside out? A product that didn’t just mask the symptoms, but worked harmoniously with our bodies to restore balance, health, and natural beauty?

That’s the mission behind Sweeter Juice Skin – to provide conscious consumers with ethically sourced, superfood-infused skincare products that nourish the skin and gut, promoting a radiant, healthier you. Our holistic approach is more than skin deep – it’s a commitment to nurturing your entire being. I’m a licensed esthetician for over 14 years and I’m inspired by grandmother who owned her own shop right behind my grandparents home. Her holistic remedies definitely inspire the products I make today.

Olunife, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Sweeter Juice Skin is a holistic skincare + wellness brand for inner and outer beauty. Led by myself, Olunife Ofomata, an aesthetician and makeup artist for over 14 years and my husband, Dr. Johnson Ofomata, a medical doctor who has studied plant extracts’ skin benefits. Together, we are reimagining skincare to focus on a holistic and synergistic approach; beauty for the inside and out, just like our ancestors did it. Sweeter Juice Skin is pro-farmer, pro-melanin, and pro-planet. So good for within, you can’t skin without!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

There was a time in our journey at Sweeter Juice Skin, where we found ourselves at a crossroads. Our product line was flourishing with an array of offerings, yet we felt something was missing. We wanted to deepen our commitment to holistic skincare, to create solutions that went beyond just addressing surface-level issues.

We realized that true beauty radiates from within, and skincare isn’t merely about what we apply externally but also about nurturing our inner selves. This revelation led us to a significant pivot in our business – a shift from an extensive product line to a more focused range centered on inner beauty products.

This wasn’t merely a change in our offerings; it was a transformation of our approach to skincare. We shifted our gaze inward, developing products that not only enhance the skin’s external appearance but also support overall wellness.

This pivot wasn’t just about reducing our offerings; it was about refining our mission. It was about championing a holistic approach to skincare, one that honors the inherent connection between our inner health and outer beauty.

Today, as we stand on the cusp of releasing our newest hero product, we look back at this pivotal moment with gratitude. It was a shift that brought us closer to our ethos, helped us resonate with conscious consumers, and reaffirmed our commitment to ethical, inclusive, and benefits-focused skincare. Our new ingestible products are designed to nourish the skin from within, providing essential nutrients and promoting a healthy gut – the root of radiant skin.

In this rhythm of transformation, we found our true essence – a brand dedicated to empowering everyone to embrace their inner beauty and let it shine through their skin. And this is just the beginning of our journey towards holistic skincare, one radiant face at a time.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

My husband, Dr. Johnson Ofomata, is also my business partner. We first crossed paths at his sister’s birthday party in 2017 when he was visiting from Australia where he was studying.

Our relationship grew stronger over time, leading us to tie the knot in 2019. But our partnership extends beyond marriage. Our God ordained and orchestrated union is meant for a greater purpose that we are still working out.

Dr. Ofomata has studied the effects of plants on skin health in Nigeria. My husband’s research is a testament to the intrinsic connection between nature and skincare, a call to action for us to embrace a more holistic, nature-inspired approach to beauty.

We wanted Sweeter Juice Skin to stand for inclusivity, to celebrate the diversity of beauty. To us, diversity isn’t just about different skin types or colors; it’s about recognizing each person’s unique path that truly reflects their inner vitality and glow.
