Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ollie Moore . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ollie , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
My biggest risk was leaving my 9-5.
A lot of times we hear that we should stay , I agree until staying interfered with business.
It is not an easy transition, it’s actually scary but if you’re fully invested you will win .
I actually went back to a 9-5 after 3 years of being a full time MUA everyday that I clocked in I knew that this was not where is was supposed to be.
Leaving takes courage, discipline, and strength.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Shantesia (Shan•t•c•ugh) but the world knows me as Ollie .
Ollie is actually my real name also, my middle name .
I am a Los Angeles native, Crenshaw district and I am a professional makeup artist.
I was so convinced in 2017 that I wanted to be a beauty influencer, and I was !
I went strong for 4 years and gained a community.
Shortly after I took a leap and started to actually take clients, needless to say it was a big difference in doing others make up and doing my own.
I also realize that I have been on social media so long that not many people knew me in the real life and that I actually didn’t have a community here in Los Angeles so I had to start from the bottom and build my clientele up.
One big thing that impacted my career was my mentor, everyone knows her as Hussle mentality here in Los Angeles.
I took a course with her when I first started doing make up, and we were locked in ever since she really pushed me as a new make up artist.
My biggest learning lesson from her was that it’s not only your skill, but it is your mental, you have to know in your mind you can do it !
If you walk in a room, and you know that you are a good make up artist, then you will continue to become a good make up artist.
For a long time, my biggest goal was to obtain a clientele of celebrities, but working in the industry that has quickly changed. I appreciate my Day to day customer so much. I have had opportunities to work alongside some great names, and I am forever grateful for it but my clients who I started with, who referred me to everyone they know, who like, share, and comment on all my post those are my people .
In the future for my business, I want to be able to reach more women and help them to understand that what I do is more than just applying make up on their face. My goal is to have them feel good when they walk away from me.
I want to host learning workshops for women who want to learn basic application for every day.
I want to bring community together with my brushes .

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Believe it or not word-of-mouth.
Social media definitely played a huge role in my clientele. However, if I do a wedding on Saturday and there is somebody there who is also getting married now I have multiple weddings booked..
Everyone is not on social media and with doing weddings, majority of the time that’s where the mouth is the biggest way for me to gain clients.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Customer service is the number one thing, please do not be fooled.
As service providers, we have to understand that we do owe the customers a service.
It is easy to do make up, it is easy to do hair, it is easy to do nails, but it is very hard to serve.
