Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Watson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Olivia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Besides grooming me to be a hard working woman, my adopted mom always said you get what you give out of life. That used to really piss me off when I was younger but only because I didn’t understand. As a teenager, and even now as an adult, I felt like what I wanted I always deserved so if I didn’t get it… it was like why? And usually it was because of my attitude. So now that I’m older, the saying hits a little different. If I put out positivity then I get it back. If I put out negative, then I get it back. If I put in the effort, I can only be rewarded.
As far as my art, the more love I have in my art, the more magical it is. I can’t do art with no reason or emotion. My first art show I didn’t sell any pieces and honestly at the time I didn’t believe in myself. My third art show I sold 2 pieces!!! And my pieces had so much love in them!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Me! I love black and white with textures/pointillism. I mainly do canvas art but also whatever I want to paint on! I just recently finished a chessboard. I also make oils, waistbeads, and bookmarks.
I am most proud of the fact that I am myself. I make art for me and those who can appreciate it. My art is so unique. For a year I struggled with not being happy in my art space. I’m literally my worst critique. My art is a representation of me and my inner child/teen.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Be you. Only be you. Art is so special and unique. Why would you want to be like any one else??
I want to do murals around my city! I remember being in grade school and we learned about a muralist and ever since that has always been an art dream of mine! The more work I do, the more people I reach! By the end of next year, I plan to have completed 1 mural and 1 community project.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
That I made this with my hands!!! My hands did the work and my mind had the vision!!
